Overall, I enjoyed this travel experience as a first-time cruiser. I was just looking for something to do to get away and relax and read. It was what I needed at a good value, even paying for two people when it was just me. I did travel alone because the person who was to accompany me ditched at the last minute. The mask requirements were definitely a nuisance. We all were vaccinated and had to present a negative COVID test before boarding. I don't understand the need for the silly masks. We didn't have to war them outside, or eating or at entertainment, so not sure why we needed them and it did spoil the experience. I would definitely do another trip with Royal Caribbean.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Embarkation was smooth. Wearing masks and having to present my COVID credentials and ID got to be a hassle after a few times.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Food was good overall in the main dining room. There were a few clunkers like the Chicken Cordon Bleu which was as good as a Swanson frozen dinner, but wait staff and kitchen recovered well. Buffet was presentable. Wanted to serve myself but staff had to serve because of COVID protocols. Felt like a five-year-old.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Used fitness center and pool. Hard to treadmill with boar rocking back and forth. Almost fell off a few times. Pools and hot tubs were nice and clean.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Enjoyed the ice show, comedians and Saturday Night Fever musical. Was pleasantly surprised by high production values and talent quality.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service staff was very attentive and eager to please. Called me by my first name. When there was an issue it was corrected immediately. Even called up 7 decks to get me a blueberry muffin! Stateroom attendant left creative towel animal shapes every night at turndown. Always a surprise and nice touch. Staff seemed to be freaked out I was traveling alone.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Ship was a little tired and outdated decor in some common areas, especially carpeting, but overall nice and clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Room was good size for one person. I was traveling alone. Two people would have been tight. Room decor was a little tired, especially carpet and furniture, but overall very clean.
Ship tip
Make sure to grab an ice cream cone when you go back to your cabin. If you're eating, you don't have to wear a silly mask!
Welcome to the wonderful world of cruising. Your attitude is perfect for this wonderful way to vacation. Your tip is going to be used next week (we set sail on Saturday) for sure. Appreciate your feedback and glad you enjoyed your cruise.
The cruise industry is under intense scrutiny and must do everything they can to prevent being shut down again. If that requires wearing a mask for the time being, so be it.
