Because of the lack of good music throughout the ship, this will probably be our last Holland America cruise, we will be returning to either Princess Cruise Lines or Celebrity cruise lines.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
No problems, just the usual long lines.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The buffets were generally very good nice selection of food.
We ate most of our breakfast and dinners at the club Orange. The food and service was very good.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The pork talks were just OK. It was too cold to use the pools. There was really nothing else to do.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
The ship stage shows were mediocre all canned music no live band. The individual singer that impersonated other singers was quite good. We are use to Princess or Celebrity having good music throughout the ship through most of the day with different styles. There was nothing like that on Holland America. The only music started at seven or 730 at night and it was either hard rock or blues. The only good music on the ship was the two ladies playing the dueling pianos, but that was not every night.
Children's Programs
No Children
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The staff were excellent
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
It took a little while to get used to the ships layout because we are very familiar with Princess Cruise Lines and Holland America layout is a little different. We did not have any problems with the ship layout just unfamiliar.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
It was a good cabin with a separate couch.
Ship tip
If you like good music, choose a different cruise line.
We did one ship excursion about seeing seals, which was very good.
We did one excursion on our own the glass bottom submarine that showed a lot of fish that was great
We were just recently on the Celebrity Ascent and found the entertainment very repetitive and not that good. Guess good musicians are hard to find these days no matter what line one is sailing with.
Thanks for the info.
Music is, of course, subjective as has already been mentioned but, I have to say, the live band in the Rolling Stone room on our Alaskan cruise a couple of years ago were, possibly, the best I have ever heard.
