Review summary

While I understand cruise lines are not responsible for the weather, if the whole trip is going to be a wash out, perhaps they should cancel. Reportedly 90 people flew home from Bermuda after days of 30 foots waves, sea sickness, a rolling ship and wet weather. No one pays for a cruise to spend the days confined inside. I really worried about the elderly and infirm people.  All our shore excursions were canceled.

Weather aside, I was not impressed. I though Royal Caribbean is supposed to be a step up but I prefer Carnival and Norwegian. While my stateroom was roomy and had excellent storage, the furnishings were shabby. My cabinets banged all night long when the ship rocked.

The ship is dated in technology and communications were very poor. There is no ship network. No one could understand the Captain's announcements. Supposedly he wanted to leave Bermuda an hour early, but the sign at the disembarkation point did not reflect this change.

I found the food mediocre and the choices unimaginative. Its all heavy and traditional. I prefer Norwegians eat whenever plan. And no one needs 2 formal nights anymore. It is a dated custom that is only half embraced anyway. I did not think the shows were very good; the aerial show was exciting, but I wasn't impressed by the singing and dancing talent.

RC needs a wine club like Carnival and Norwegian have. I like being able to pick out bottles for the trip that will be accessible whenever and wherever we want them.

Highlights of the cruise were our waiter, Emil, and our steward, Evangeline.  The head waiters (guys in red coats) seemed to provide no value and just stressed out the waiters. The Solarium helped me still feel like I was on vacation despite the inclement weather.

I won't sail RC again

Cabin was roomy but shabby. It is the very first cabin in front so you notice the rolls and rough seas more. I was bumped into the air in bed and slammed back down. The cabinets banged. The TV is dated and not as useful as touch screen systems. The balcony was reasonably roomy. I had a large balcony room and I don't know if that meant large balcony or large room. We were able to host get together with 2 others comfortably.

Ship tip

I did not like the Windjammer food at all. I liked the Solarium since I could feel like I was outside in the rain and the food was a bit lighter.

I use Bonine. Any Dramamine type works. The patch has too many side effects for my wife so she quit using them.

It has always amazed me how two people can be on the same cruise and have such a different cruise experience. Either the food is bad or the service is poor. Have I had bad experiences, absolutely but it didn't spoil the entire cruise. It doesn't matter where you vacation, bad things can happen. Make the best of a bad situation and keep on going. And PLEASE don't cancel your gratuities becase of poor wx. the crew can't control the that part of the cruise.

We are going on the Grandeur for the first time over Thanksgiving. Can't wait. Been on many ships, but not this one.

One of my best cruises was on the Grandeur. I'm sailing on her again in 2017. The ship is great, that's all I have to say.

I cruised about 10 times in the past five years. All of those cruises but two have been on Royal Caribbean. Haven't had a bad one yet. Sure, there are times when I stumbled down the hallway and I wasn't drunk. I was in the casino on the Pride playing the slots beside the windows when waves slammed up against them and scared me half to death. Leaving on the Pride tomorrow..can't wait.

You need to understand, you are paying for the cruise experience. The destinations are an added bonus. A cruise line will NEVER cancel a scheduled cruise unless the ship has issues where it can not sail or can not sail safely. On our trans-Atlantic this past April, we had to bypass Bermuda due to weather conditions and remained at sea for 7 days. We had no discontent nor did we get any OBC to counter the missed port of Bermuda. All we got was the port fee's and taxes refunded to our folio. If your going to sail, you have to accept what you experienced due to weather conditions may happen.

Come sunshine or rocking waves, I CAN'T WAIT!! It absolutely is what you make of it. I have never needed anti nausea meds and I've been thru a few rough cruises. I haven't been on a ship this small in a few years, so I may take some. I don't want the patch...any recommendations for good OTC meds?

A cruise to Bermuda is what it is during hurricane season. Unfortunately Bermuda shares weather with the east coast and that is why their season is so short. I sailed from Bermuda to New Jersey once, and it wasn't bad weather and the ship rocked. I still had fun. Better than being at work.😄

Another complainer. Any cruise is better than no cruise. I went through a hurricane while coming back from a cruise to Bermuda a few years ago, but it didn't stop me from going again. I tell everyone that it is what you make it, but there will always be negative people. Shame on you.

Amazingly l was on the same cruise and didn't have the same over all experience. True the wx going was the worst we have had in 10 cruises we were prepared with anti nausea meds and except for stumbling around for two days we had a great time. The Captain's English wasn't understandable. Windjammer food is what it is. Main Dining Room food was excellent, and the service was fantastic. Our waiter Alroy was the best in all of our cruises. The head waiter Mila was doing his job but didn't hover like some. We actually saw Michael the Hotel Manager clearing tables in the Windjammer. The shows we went to were acceptable. Pretty typical cruise fare. Tony Tilghman, and the juggling comedian were great. And to be almost 20 the Grandeur is holding her own. We go back in March for Eastern Caribbean cruise. For us RCCL is our only cruise line. Tried Carnival once, not again. Had a good cruise experience on Holland America but probably won't go back. The Solarium with one exception the day they had a water aerobics class is a quiet break from the rest of the ship. Viking Crown Lounge is very quiet and a great place to read a book during the day.
