Review summary

We like the smaller ships such as explorer and we are on her again in 3 weeks time ,RC are in my opinion one of the nicer cruise lines

Embarkation

5 out of 5
quick, arrived at port 12.15 on board ship 12.30

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
main dining room service was brilliant, food was piping hot and a great choice every night .Buffet restaurant , only used a couple of times for snacks but that was the normal pile em high plate stacking bunfights

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Entertainment was very poor this cruise , group in star bar were excellent and that was that , The usual OAP singalong with Perry in the schooner bar not something i would want to see every night ( but some do ) Cruise director we only saw him once the whole cruise did not seem to mingle with many guests as they have done on previous cruises

Children's Programs

no children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
waiters are the usual hard working guys and gals a long way from home trying to make a living and they go way out of there way to make it as special for the passengers as they can

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
cleanliness very good all around the ship and you can always see a cleaner along the promenade or toilet areas checking

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
although we have always had a balcony cabin we now prefer an inside they are so quiet compared to balconies , only downside is they are dark but i purchased a plug in nightlight ( with usb ports in it ) prior to sailing, best thing i have ever bought

Ship tip

Its one of the smaller ships in the fleet so don't expect the razzmatazz of the mega ships ,

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

5 out of 5
embarkation and disembarked here , great town for shopping and eating

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
very quick , we left ship at 7.10 am easy walk off and were on the train and home by 9am

Every ship & every cruise line has its good & not so good points. The trick is to relax & Enjoy your holiday. It's what you make of it. It's not healthy to constantly compare. Make the most of your holiday that you've no doubts looked forward to for some time.

As a very seasoned Royal Cruiser, Explorer is not a smaller ship, Grandeur and Vision are smaller ships, and yes I’ve been on Symphony, so I know both big to small

Glad you had a nice cruise. We are sailing on The Explorer in January and have read some mixed reviews. We are on Deck 7, inside, aft. Do you think Deck 7 is a good location? First time on RC. Thanks.
