Review summary

The ship is getting old and showing it. Unless you go to the speciality restaurants, stick to the buffet. Definitely take in the Ice Shows as this is best thing onboard. Don't expect fast service at the bars or restaurants so take a deep breath and try to enjoy what is there to see. Try to engage the staff because they won't start the conversation but overall the price reflects what you receive.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Did not appreciate having my powerboard confiscated on the dock. I have carried it on many cruise ships and planes without incident.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Windjammer buffet was excellent, dining room food very average and after an almost inedible meal on the second night was offered (and took) fillet mignon the next night which the chef nailed although when you offer "your choice of sauce" you need to offer more than 1 choice.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Bars had hardly any staff and service was extremely slow. Worst case was 15 mins to be served 2 drinks in the Schooner Bar. Asked for a mocktail a few times and staff refused to blend or shake up so not very nice.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Ice Show was the only redeeming feature of the whole cruise plus the comedian did a great job keeping us laughing in a kid friendly environment.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Not enough staff. Majority never smiled. Still waiting for cabin attendant to deliver ice and ice bucket ordered first day. A lot of attendants with no understanding of food or beverages which made communicating difficult. Missed the many smiling, laughing and dancing pool waiters always ready to serve you on Princess.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Poor design. No bar or lounge area at either the front or rear of the ship to sit and while away the time. the 2 pools in the middle of the ship were very overcrowded and not inviting. Other pool in the adults area was better but as a smoking area did not suit us. Not many small entertaining areas for a piano player or guitarist to listen to. The promenade was interesting but when shows were on it was standing room only.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
The balcony railing and floor was filthy when we arrived. Carpets badly stained and room generally dusty. The fridge didn't work. We had to put a towel just inside the door to wipe our shoes as you couldn't go barefoot on the balcony. Sliding door very hard to open. Bed sank in the middle badly and very uncomfortable.

Ship tip

We have sailed with Royal Caribbean a few times and really looked forward to this cruise. It was so disappointing it will take an extremely great itinerary or price to entice us back. We are going back to Princess or NCL.
