Review summary

Loved the small South Pacific islands, the Captain gave good information at noon each day.  Ship, staff and atmosphere were all up to expectations of the cruise-line.

The Diamond/Concierge clubs were pleasant, friendly and well-maintained.

One quite major complaint was the lack of availability for current world news.

The only North American channel available on the tv was the degrading and opinionated CNN - Why could RCCL not supply a channel which gives unbiassed world news coverage?  Also most of the other channels repeatedly showed outdated and boring entertainment shows.

Thank you to all the hard-working staff on the Explorer.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Satisfactory and up to the standard of any RCCL ship.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
No dance/aerobics were available until Day 12. 😢 Trivias were fun. Paul's Rock 'n Roll presentations very entertaining. Dance classes well attended, instructors superb. The Anzac Day daybreak service was dignified, appropriate and much appreciated.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Some evening headliners were not up to caliber. Zumba with Sylvia - fantastic! In-house band, Pulse, very good. Ice shows were amazing!, Dancers, Amanda and Sebastian, were the best on any cruise ship. Brilliant!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff efficient and helpful. Stateroom attendants, Tucker & Fitz were both excellent. Sylvia, (Zumba) is delightful and encouraging. Graham, Cruise Director is hilarious and interacts well with everybody on board.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I prefer newer ships which show no signs of wear and tear, however the Explorer is comfortable and staff make every attempt to keep it clean and carry out repairs as needed.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Unfortunately I had to move from the original cabin, which I liked, due to some issues which could not be resolved. Guest Services and staff handled the situation very professionally.

Ship tip

Explore the entire ship a.s.a.p. The ice-machine is on Deck 5 near the cafe.

News? Who wants news? I go on a cruise to get away from "news." (And by the time I get home it will be OLD.) :-)
