Review summary

Wow! The ship was very large and technically sophisticated, but very eloquently decorated and meticulously clean. The crew and staff were friendly, courteous, outgoing, and went to extremes to assure that our sailing experience was positive. The staff were very organized with the check-in and check-out processes. The captain updated the ship's passengers several times each day on the weather of each port, ship activities, and other relevant information. The food was excellent along with the dining room staff in assuring that all of our meals met or exceeded our expectattions. Low-calorie, low fat, and healthy selections available at the Windjammer Cafe and The Island Grill made dining not only a pleasure to taste, but perhaps more importantly, I didn't gain the weight that I thought I might with this cruise! There were so many scheduled activities onboard the ship as well as available onshore excursions that there was always something going on for all ages. There were also numerous lounge chairs available to soak in the sun and the sea air, and to relax and enjoy the live music and the spectacular views. I was very impressed with my entire cruise experience and would highly recommend sailing on Explorer of the Seas to everyone that expects an extraordinary vacation that is not only incredibly fun and exciting, but affordable as well. This is my first time sailing with Royal Carribean and I must say that I will be back for another cruise in the near future!

Ports of call

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
What a beautiful port of call! I am still wondering how the captain was able to sail so close to the island with such a large ship! Accessing the tender boats was very organized, smooth, and uneventful. Being able to travel to the various breath-takinging, crystal clear, and beautiful beaches on the island provided a variety of swimming, snorkling, and other water and beach-related activities that made this port well worth visiting. I enjoyed the "picnic" lunch and the service of the attendents on the beaches. There were numerous access sites, which provided gorgeous views of the sea, shorelines, and mountain regions. Certainly, the natural beauty of Labadee comprises what "screen-savers" of tropical paradises should be!
Don't Miss: The snorkling is incredible! The water is crystal clear & loaded with fish & other sea life!

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

5 out of 5
Dunn's River Falls is spectacular! Although a dfifficult climb indeed, it is well worth the effort and time that it takes to enjoy the amazing views of the water falls, which empty into the sea. Shaw Beach was nice, especially near the emptying of the Dunn River (fresh water) into the Carribean Sea. The snorkling was less than pleasurable in this location however due in part to few fish and sea life available for viewing. The buffet-style lunch at the Shaw Beach Resort was tasty and the location provided a panoramic view of open sea waters and the aroma of surf, sea, and fresh sand.
Don't Miss: Dunn's River Falls is a must see either partaking in the "wet" or "dry" land tour. Take good-fitting & slide-proof shoes!

Pros: The onboard activities, the ports, & the food.

Cons: The subtropical storm that attributed to the ship rocking on the last night of the cruise.
