Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Very small portions in main dining room so obliged to go to Windjammer buffet after the first night.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Too sick to use any facilities

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Stage shows were good. Karaoke had a very poor host. Really annoyed my wife ordered Pina collada and got Coconut cream on the rocks. They added a 18% gratuity bring the cost to just under $13......then asked for another tip lol.

Children's Programs

No kids loL

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
The cabin which was supposedly ocean view had literally no ocean view and filthy carpets-room 7152. We picked up a bug we suspect was from the filthy carpet. Despite the Coronavirus scare the cabin steward at no time suggested a dictor or brought it to the attention of medical staff. My wife was very feverish and he did nothing or gave no extra towels despite not having to make up the room because of illness. Three days home and only now is she recovering. Because of this and the state of the cabin I requested all gratuities be removed from the bill. This was ignored so we were charged 89bucks for literally nothing.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
The carpet in the cabin reeked and was filthy. There was not even a hint of an ocean view despite it being advertised as ocean view.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Size okay and comfort okay however carpets filthy and we are convinced was where the bug both of us got on the first day came from. Wife so sick she could not get off at any port. Very disappointing as she especially wanted Key West and cozumel but she was very sick and feverish all trip and for three days after we got home so could not disembark in either. The filthy cabin, no ocean view and being so feverish as to stop disembarking at any port made it a cruise from hell

Ship tip

Do not book an ocean view cabin if you want to see the ocean-not possible.

Ports of call

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

1 out of 5
Very difficult to find an exit to get out of the tourist shops and even when we did find it nobody could give us the price of a taxi or shuttle

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Very efficient and particularly grateful RCL brought 2 cases to offload during the night. We were physically just not able to do so we were so dehydrated and feverish

Traveler Photos

Even at an angle no sea view No ocean view in an ocean view cabin Where is the view of the ocean for an ocean view cabin? Is this why you book a cruise? Still feverish after day 5 Wife in bed sick from bug in cabin day three Filthy Carpet in cabin Dirty Carpet in Cabin

You are being dishonest and with just a quick read of your post its quite obvious. 1) you claim you are an experienced cruiser with 7+ cruises, but you also claim you were disappointed with: A) an ocean view cabin that was obstructed. I have yet to see a cruise line that doesn't make this very clear. You would of known that going in and claiming you didn't know would be impossible B) Portions are small on ALL cruise lines in the main dining room as they don't want leftovers, its not like a restaurant where you want a doggie bag. You would of also known in your 7+ cruises that you can always ask for more C) Every cruise line charges $13 for a Pina-Colata. You would of known that too.

Food is unlimited even in the dining room. Also gratuities are for more than just your room steward...

If you were sick on the first day, maybe you had that bug when you boarded and didn’t realize it yet. Too bad, cruising is so fun.

I was on that ship two years ago, and felt the same. I was very surprised that Royal would allow that. I never had any issues before .

Sorry you didn’t enjoy it. It sounds like cruising may not be for you or you needed to do more research before you left. There are numerous sites that would’ve shown you a picture of the room and what to expect. As far as portion sizes in the dining room, they serve the recommended portions that everyone should be eating. The problem is the typical American now eats 2-3 times the recommended portion sizes, so they are shocked when they are served what they should be eating. There are also numerous posts on this website that would’ve giving you information on how to get out of the port and what to do in Costa Maya.
