I’ve seen shorts and tshirts in Formal Night MDR on Princess. They won’t turn you away.

2 formal nights. They don’t recommend wearing jeans in MDR. The buffet is casual though.

2 formal nights on a 7 day cruise. Also, yes, nice jeans and a button up top or polo is perfectly fine on other nights in the dining room.
