Review summary

To be honest I guess this is my fault, I put a deposit down on a princess cruise in August of last year. I did not realize that the day I put the deposit down, it was nonrefundable. I had never put a deposit down on a cruise before and then had to cancel. I cannot believe the same day I put the deposit down, which was eight months out from the cruise, I lost it already. I do not think I will be cruising on princess again. Does anyone know if the other cruise lines have the same policy? I was also irritated because I spoke with princess cruise lines to make my reservations to begin with. I did not use a travel agent. And the gal I talked to did not ever tell me that what I was doing was nonrefundable. I feel like I have been burned. Never again.

Sometimes the deposit is refundable, it depends on what sale you’re buying. Every year they have a sale where the deposit is only $1

In fairness to the cruise lines, too many people were tying up a lot of cabins and then just before final payment they would cancel. This leaves a large amount open and then these cabins need to be filled quickly.

It's annoying but it's a new practice for many cruise lines now to demand nonrefundable deposits. I've just seen it on Celebrity's site but it's very clearly stated.

Did you have to cancel for some reason, or were you able to still go? I see you also have one on Crown Princess? for April too..?

Yes sometimes princess has refundable and sometimes are non-refundable deposits. they usually tell you up front this next Cruise I'm on when we got it was a non-refundable deposit because it was on sale. of the other cruises we've been on have all had refundable deposits. And sometimes they give you a future cruise credit. Sorry that happened to you

Cruise lines offer refundable and non refundable deposits. Often to get the lowest price you end up with a non refundable deposit. Cruise lines are responsible for making it clear to you the deposit is non refundable. Next time deal with a reputable Travel Agency, not a .com agency, but one with a door you can walk through and deal with a professional

All cruise lines confuse you with a long application and then demand the non refundable deposit after you have been distracted.

It is not your fault. The Cruise industry lacks integrity and strongly resembles the auto industry. Some people get value and others get their deposits taken from them even when the cruise line lies about the cruise.

I did not know the deposit was nonrefundable.
