Overall ship was quite pleasant. Older crowd and cooler weather meant that pools and lounges were not crowed. Some signs of aging were present but overall very pleasant.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Dinners were excellent and reasonable portions (just the right amount of food). Breakfast was mediocre as the selection was not great. The sanitation requirements created great lines for coffe / juice which was very inconvenient.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The entertainment was OK. We like to dance and the lounge was fine since most of the older crowd didn't dance. Had it been a younger crowd there would not have been any room.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Excellent - well mannered and always pleasant.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
There was a flue virus on the ship so maximum sanitation was in place. This at first was of concern but after a week we got used to it. Ship appeared well cleaned.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Very good - no complaints of any kind. The only item that would have made it excellent would to have internet available in the room. TV also had minimal selection and didn't always have those limited channels avaialble.
Ephasis was the place to see. Watch out for guides wanting to take you to their favorite shops where they charge a fortune and the guides make a percentage. Again we took a private tour and were not very pleased with our guide regarding the tourist traps he tried to take us to.
We love Israel and this city acted as a port for Jeruselem or more central / southern sites of interest. Nothing in Ashdod. Port is a long way from anything, so plan on taxi or ship bus to get you anywhere.
Has more historic sites close by plus Nazareth, Galleli and other sites. Excellent as it is conveniently located right beside the train station (no taxi or bus needed to catch the train).
Pros: mobile hotel room - an excellent way to see various sights with the convenience of living out of the same location
Cons: Internet arrangements - treated an item that is free in most any hotel like it was gold. $0,65 per minute is ridiculous and the performance of the service was poor.
