Review summary

Celebrity Edge class ships are the newest in the Celebrity Cruises fleet. Designed to bring you closer to the ocean, they feature the Magic Carpet, an outdoor levitating bar, and Eden, a beautiful indoor area with 7,000 square feet of windows. We cannot recommend Apex enough. Everything was wonderful. Do yourself a favor and get in the habit of chilling out in Eden multiple times per day and night. Do not skip the Cafe, the Sunset Bar, or the Thermal Suite, as these are very special spots.

Embarkation

Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades is among the best anywhere, better than Miami, Tampa, and Port Canaveral, because of superior air conditioning, comfortable places to sit, and the always-smiling port authority staff. Celebrity always proactively serves their guests from port to boarding, including cold water, usually offering a choice of lemon, orange or cucumber water, and often cool damp towels on hot boarding days. As always, the people of Celebrity, the crew and staff (who always appear happy to see you coming aboard), even the photographers, who make all the difference in excellent quality of passenger care.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Best at sea. Pro Tip: Go to Cafe Al Bacio on deck 4 upon boarding for a lovely iced coffee or english tea or cold frappe!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I can't imagine someone being unable to find fun things to do on this ship.

The Theatre

5 out of 5

The show called Crystallize was amazing and is not to be missed! Visually stunning and well rehearsed and produced!

Casino

5 out of 5

Be forewarned. Not only did they move out some of their most profitable slot machines, they seem to have tightened up all slot payouts. Based on my careful observations, from 3 cruises ago to now, it certainly looks like hand pays are down by at least 75%. I got at least 10 hand pays on the transatlantic cruise and a big fat zero on this one, even playing the same denoms and often the same machines. I lost a lot of money on this cruise, and that almost never happens to me. Judge for yourself, but you have been advised.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows in the theater and Eden are wonderful, actually amazing. Tree of Life is a tad depressing, and will trigger any dead Dad issues. The show in The Club needs reworking, is a hot mess, this hodgepodge called Caravan, which inexplicably pairs Pure Imagination from Wonka with the worst of classic rock.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
As on every Celebrity Edge class ship, the people of Apex treat you like royalty. We are thrilled with the Staff and the Service!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Design is nearly identical to all other Edge Class ships. The only difference, besides art on the walls and sculpture, is the design of the "space room" on deck 5 Aft on the way to BLU and Eden. It is easy to learn where everything is, especially if you have ever been on Beyond, Edge or Ascent. That said, it is very different from the Solstice class ships.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Sky Suites are wonderful on Edge class ships. Spacious, roomy, comfortable, huge shower, big bathroom, two sides br vanity, and large real veranda.

Ship tip

Apex is one of the four best cruising experiences at sea at any price, as part of Celebrity Edge class. Go to Cafe Al Bacio every day! Pro tip: If given a choice between cruising from Miami or Fort Lauderdale, whenever possible, sail from the latter. FLL is a better and nicer airport and the same goes for the port terminals. When you add to that the significant difference in personal safety (less crime), and vastly improved chance of getting a driver who speaks English, then you have a truly clear choice made for you. Fort Lauderdale, Florida is safer, cleaner, nicer, more hospitable, more comfortably spacious, and more travel-friendly.

Disembarkation

Easy peasy.
