Review summary

This was our 2nd Celebrity cruise and we thought it an opportunity to try Edge class. We really enjoyed the ship and the experience.

Embarkation

We picked our own time some weeks before on the app. We had chosen 12 noon as we were staying overnight in Southampton. We arrived at 11:30am and were onboard within 10 minutes. Fantastic.

All good. Really enjoyed the MDR, Eden Cafe, Raw on 5 and Le Petit Chef.

Le Grande Bistro

We dined here in the evening when the venue becomes Le Petit Chef. This could possibly be considered a gimmick but we really enjoyed the experience and to be honest, so much so we’d do it again. Very entertaining, great food and the staff in this venue were top notch.

Eden Cafe

A hidden gem at lunchtime. If you want a lighter lunch this works fine and appears to be fairly undiscovered.

Spotless. Cleaning in the public areas was going on constantly. The room was very clean also.

Cabin / Stateroom

We booked an inside as this was only a short cruise. It was clean and very spacious. The bathroom is an excellent size with a large shower. There is an interactive tv with navigation, shipboard account etc. Very few movies on the system none of which you’d really want to watch and all are pay per view. That’s very disappointing given the premium feel of the cruise as a whole.

Ship tip

If you can upgrade to premium drinks then do it. Much more choice.

Ports of call

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Always enjoy a visit to ‘the Dam’, Take a river cruise or just walk into the town. Celebrity tend to dock actually in Amsterdam where lots of other lines stop at IJmuiden to avoid expensive port fees (allegedly) and this requires a coach transfer.

Disembarkation

We opted to do the early walk off. It’s very early on Celebrity at 06:30. We grabbed a quick bacon sandwich in the MDR at 6am and then they announced that we were cleared to leave so we headed off. We were driving up the avenue out of Southampton at 630am thanks to having parked at ABP opposite the terminal.
