The usual insanity in Galveston. They're modernizing the place..You know what that means.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Tried something different this time. Wrote to the maitre d..2 wks prior, asked for a specific table, back by ourselves for dinner every night. Did the same for breakfast on the first morning. Never used a specialty restaurant...careful examination of whats being offered tells me its EXACTLY the same food, different decor. NEVER went to "Jurassic Park" at all. (the buffet)...when the two sets of waiters realized we were going to be there all week (and yes we tipped accordingly mid week) they couldn't do enough for us..up to and including additional lobster...these guts almost became friends...the MDR mgr came over EVERY SINGLE NIGHT to see how we were doing...can't imagine what the folks at other tables thought...tough....the food choices were manageable, we both did 3 appetizers every night, and 2 mains each...no problems whatsoever....theres enough choices to keep most folks happy, but the "old days" are over, thats for sure..

Onboard Activities

We get HAVANA a cabin. that entitles us to the private area on the stern. 2 hot tubs, pool, regular bartenders at the bar, even shade. We tipped the bartenders well...amazing how cheap some folks can be when they think that 18% covers it...Put a $20 in somebodys hand and watch what happens.

Entertainment

Can't help it..compared to what once was, not worth the effort.

Children's Programs

No rugrats...

Service and Staff

Absolutely outstanding. Yes, the additional tips got their attention, I'm not naive. But so what?

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
I'm told its going into drydock soon...needs it...they try to keep it clean, and mechanically things work, but its hardly "new"....doubt if we'll be on her again, they're repositioning it.

Cabin / Stateroom

Steward kept it tip top. Asked for an extra mattress pad, on embarcation day, got it in an hour. Bear in mind when we had the "corners", you get extra chairs...this was center stern, some loungers most folks cant get out of...and you CANNOT have your freebie continental breakfast out there unless you eat it standing up...grrrr. btw, on embarcation day, called room service and set up that freebie breakfast for every morning for the week...one call...have done it many times.

Ship tip

For a newbie, got walk around, learn, and don't think you're on the QE2...For old timers...it is what it is..
