Sail date: August 15, 2009

Ship: Carnival Triumph

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

The ship was huge and a little confusing. But, not using the elevator and walking the steps was great exercise. Our balcony was a good escape from the crowd when we wanted it. The kayak shore excursions were really terrrific.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was good and they accommodated my non dairy diet. The regular desserts were just so so, and there was only fruit or awful sherbert on the non dairy menu.

Entertainment

5 out of 5

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All of the staff were wonderful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was very clean and over the top "Las Vegas" style. The cigar lounge was very awful and smelly. You needed to walk through it to get to the dining room.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Clean, roomy, great balcony. The bed was a little hard.

Ports of call

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Kayaking was about 45 minutes away and was really great. They were supposed to provide a lobster lunch and there wasn't enough food for everyone. We didn't have time to see everything in Halifax like the cemetery and the Citadel.

Saint John, New Brunswick

5 out of 5
There really wasn't much in St. John that was of any interest. The General Store museum was nice and the market was nice for lunch. We went kayaking about 20 minutes out of town, which was wonderful.
Don't Miss: Kayaking

Pros: We did kayaking trips in St. John and Halifax. Both were terrific.

Cons: There were long lines for the buffets. But the food was great.
