Review summary

I wouldn't go on Carnival Sunshine a second time. We had some nice moments but the embarkation and disembarkation process is the worst I have ever experienced.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
I have been on other Carnival cruises from other ports that were a smooth process. The Charleston terminal embarkation process is the most unorganized and stressful thing I have ever experienced. It was a mess.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
It was overcrowded. Food was only mediocre.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Pool and water slides were packed and people were packed on deck like sardines in a can.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
The room steward would knock quietly once or twice and if you didn't JUMP and run to answer, he came on in. I was traveling with my two teenage daughters so this was not ideal. The staff in the Sunshine restaurant were amazing - great service. The Lido Deck restaurant - the staff needs some training. I was sitting quietly one morning in there having a cup of coffee and there were plenty of empty tables around me. However, a member of the wait staff collected the dirty dishes from about 3 tables near me and literally brought them to the table where I was sitting to scrape all of the food from the plates to one plate and consolidated her dishes for easier carrying AT MY TABLE where I was actively trying to enjoy my breakfast.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Hard to find your way around the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was nice and pretty spacious as far as cruise cabins go.

Ship tip

Hardly any of the staff speak English and the little they speak is hard to understand. Research before you go. Review the ships deck plans and figure out where everything is before you go.

Ports of call

Charleston, South Carolina

1 out of 5

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
So unorganized and it took forever to exit the ship.

Had a journey cruise on Sunshine a couple years back. When debarking customs had a problem and it was over an hour wait for Diamond to start debarking. This was out of Port Canaveral where we have been out of about 15 times and never have had a problem before or after. Sunshine is our favorite ship.

We also traveled on the Sunshine in Dec Had a great time except weather was not that great. If you don't want to be bothered by the room steward just put your snoozing tag on the door. They will not come in. Hope you give cruising another chance.

Sorry you had the experience you did. We’ve gone through Charleston several times and it was the easiest embarkation and debarkations ever. On the ship in literally 20 minutes.
