We had a great time and will be enjoying the sunshine again next month.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation went very smooth. Had a 10:30 check-in time and was on the ship by 11:10.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food in the dining room was very good. Did not go to the buffet much because the crowds were just crazy. Don't thing some people had eaten for days. Haha! Empty tables were hard to find too. Dining room was just easier for us.
Easy to use the app for anytime dining. When we checked in it always said less that 10 min. wait. This was for breakfast and dinner. They let us know our table was ready in less than 10 mins every time.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We didn't do any outdoor activities but watched people having a great time. Pool was not really crowded. Did have some children shooting water out of the pool at people with water bottles. Lifeguard made them stop. Great fitness center. Very clean with lots of equipment.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff was wonderful. We did a back to back and everyone remembered us by name in the dining rooms. Someone was always cleaning railings, decks and vacuuming. Did not see anyone cleaning the elevator buttons. Sometimes they looked pretty sticky. Our room steward Ningia, I think I am spelling this wrong. Can't find his card. He was wonderful. Always friendly and kept cabin clean.
Kimi, Rio and Putra in the dining room very very friendly and helpful.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
We have sailed on the Sunshine several times. It is an older ship it is kept clean. Trying to remember to not get off deck 3 midship because of the galley was hard for us sometimes. Everytime we saw someone else do it too it was. "Oh yea! You can't get there from here."
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin was kept clean. All lights worked. We even had a refrigerator this time. Have taken 7 Carnival cruises and first time to have a fridge. There were 2 outlets. One by the TV and one by the desk. We brought a cruise plug-in that had 2 USB and 3 outlets so that worked a lot better than us bringing a power strip like we always have before.Much more convenient.
Ship tip
Have a great time on your cruise. I have read guests comments about the food being not so great and smells in the hallways. We have never experienced that and have sailed on the Sunshine 3 times in the last couple years. The crew is great! Everyone has smiles on the faces. They work 12 hour days, seven days a week for months. Our room steward said he has been on the ship for 5 months and had only been off once for 45 mins to get toothpaste and person items. So we need to show them lots of respect for all they do. Most of us could not work that long and still show up everyday with a smile.
We live here. So we will miss Carnival when they stop sailing here at the end of 2024. Hopefully there is another port that will welcome carnival for all the NC, SC, VA and GA people that liked the Charleston port. Plus people from other states that liked coming to Charleston.
Disembarkation did not go as well as some other times. We needed a shuttle with a lift for my husband and his scooter. It took a long time to get one but there were a lot of people waiting to get to the parking lot. So maybe we just picked a wrong time to get off. We didn't do an early luggage tag. It was almost 8:45 when we got off the ship and I know you have to be off by 9:00. So we thought most people would be off already. It was fine though. Just a long wait. Porters are very nice in Charleston.
Thank you for sharing. We cruise this Saturday Nov12th on the Sunshine and looking forward to a break from life with my wife!! I appreciate you sharing your highs and lows. I’m glad you enjoyed your back to back cruise.
That’s awesome!!
