Review summary

Our first cruise on the Sunshine. She’s a beautiful ship and we never ran out of activities or entertainment to enjoy. Serenity is fantastic! Mikey was a blast too! It’s all what you make of it. We can’t wait for our next cruise!

Embarkation

Our appt time was set for 12, we arrived in the lot at 11am and kept moving until we stood in line for the security/carryon bag check. Even that process moved quickly. The entire process took less than an hour. We were on the ship by noon. Just be prepared to walk from the parking lot to building 324. The trek to the building is all outdoors so if the weather is bad be prepared to be walking outside for about 10 minutes depending on how far of a walk you have from your vehicle to the building. Once you’re checked in a shuttle brings you over to the ship.

Food and Dining

This was our 6th Carnival cruise and I’m never able to give a 5 star review for the buffet food. Don’t get me wrong, we never go hungry but imagine prepping food for 3000 people. We compare cruise ship cuisine to Denny’s or Golden Corral, it’s hit or miss. For breakfast our favorite spot is the Italian side omelet station. It’s always less crowded than the other side. And we liked sitting in the Havana area; it’s less crowded. Lunch, Blue Iguana and Guys are great choices. We also love the salad bar and pizza.

Good quiet location even though we were on the Lido. We always opt for an interior or port hole. Our interior room on Sunshine seemed larger than our interior on Fantasy and Ecstasy. But it could just be because the carpet and decor is brighter. We always pack Clorox wipes and clean our room a bit before we settle in. (the remote, light switches door handles etc). I’m sure the room stewards surface clean but we don’t take the risk of getting ill onboard if we can prevent it. This room had a fridge and hair dryer too.
