Review summary

Not sure I will cruise with carnival again anytime soon. The hustle on board included charges for items never ordered. Spa staff were rude and ignored us as we tried to book services so we left and kept our money in our pockets.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Went quickly. Agents were helpful and gave good directions.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Food all tasted the same and was always luke warm or cold. I’ve never had deep dark tea with no flavor. Lemons was the way to fix that. Had to return sangria that tasted more like seltzer water. Drinks were watered down so after two tries, I gave up on them.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Casino, shopping, karaoke.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Ok.

Children's Programs

Didn’t bring kids.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our room steward was wonderful. He was responsive and took great care of us. Wait staff were sometimes rude, and rushed us off as quickly as possible. We got so much disparate info. when asking questions during debarkation that we almost missed our transportation to the airport. Total chaos.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship needs a rehab. There was tissue stuck in our window to stop a water leak.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The size was perfect for three occupants. Our steward kept the cabin clean and learned to always leave ice in our room.

Ports of call

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

3 out of 5
Another hustle by Carnival. No excursion.

Grand Turk Island

4 out of 5
Although another carnival hustle, we ignored the shops and hired a local driver to take us on a tour.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Chaotic! We were given different instructions by every one we spoke with. After following other passengers, we finally got into the limelight lounge where we were kep until 9:10. After forcefully speaking with the rep, we were finally allowed to leave and had to run to get to our transportation by the time the last bus left for the airport. The absolute worse part of the trip.

U all kno that within ur first 24 hours on ship any ship u can go to customer service n let them kno n they take u off the ship n send u home. For future cruisers . Am platinum an I have sailed from the smallest ship to the largest n I must say I don't habe much negative things to say. But everyone is not a cruiser js.

Went on the sunshine in January for 13 days and the food was never hot there were hardly any change on the bar food was bland got tired of eating the same things only a little different in spices but was t good. Some of the passengers had to which cabins due to water leaks soaking everything they had and I know of some ceilings fallen from leaks I have pictures of towels around doors and at elevator to catch the water, talked to several passengers that said they would never take this ship again including us, and we tried to make the best of it and didn’t have a bad attitude just not happy expected better for the money also tile in casino at the bar was always wet and grout molded. Definitely needs to be docked until problems are fixed. Hope they have worked out their problems for future sailers!!!!!

Was just on the Sunshine in January (13days) and again in February (8 days) never had any problems. Yes the ship is in need of work ( going into dry dock soon), as for the staff best in fleet, may be your attitude not the staff. . As for deportation we are platinum and got off the ship very fast, little late arriving into port once , but everyone was patient. On the 13 day there was 220 diamond and 2100 platinum, everyone knew it was going to be a slow process debarking, but you just go with the flow.

I have to agree, debarkation on the Sunshine was chaotic. There was no semblance of order when we departed. They piled diamond, platinum, fttf, and others in the same room and expected everyone to follow the proper leaving order. The crew was rude and everyone gave you a different answer. They really need to get their act together.

You get debarkation sent to your room 2 nights before you get off. All of the debarkation instructions are there along with luggage tags if you decide to leave your luggage out the night before.
