Review summary

Overall this was a relaxing cruise with two nice port a of call. For a ship nearly been sold out it did not appear to be crowded in all food areas or sunning decks. However it was crowded in the casino and shows.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Outstanding and very quick. Room was ready upon boarding, noon, note I am a platinum member. However, the other line was long and moving along steadily. Though it was at peak time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
A different menu each day and if you cruise on Carnival before it is typically the same dishes with an option of basic meals like steak chicken pork chops. The other menu option is food items from Port of the day. We had your time dining and had no wait times except for elegant night which was about 35 minutes. Service time is slower than normal which could be the number of people for your time dining compared to set dining. I just believe there’s fewer staff servicing passengers from previous years. (2nd cruise this year on CCL). We did do brunch two times and it was just OK. We ate at The buffet on the first day at the captain’s Italian restaurant, no charge, And it was good. As for the buffet lines it appear that the options were plenty and there was really no wait time I in see long lines Except at guys burgers. Which we Tried upon coming back from Port one day. It was good if you like greasy burgers. In the mornings if you like omelettes back by the Havana bar, the captain station and Ji Jii’s Had omelet Stations and side items except for fruit and pastries however if there was a little wait of 5 to 10 minutes. We did teatime one day which gave you the option of two tees at no charge for a variety of teas for up charge of $1.95. They had a cart full of goodies of sweets Sandwiches and hors d’oeuvres.

Alchemy Bar

5 out of 5

This was a nice place to receive a specialty drink and listen to some good entertainment.

Havana Bar

5 out of 5

Offered entertainment nightly and the band was outstanding

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The serenity deck was nice three separate floors with an adults only pool. Kids activity area of the The waterslides and apps of course was closed one Fun day at sea due to wind conditions.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Casino Are was always crowded and smoking was on one side.

Children's Programs

No kids this cruise.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Room steward kept the room clean and provided fresh towels daily. Waitstaff in the main dining room did an outstanding job for the amount of tables they were servicing. Service was slow however They always provide the But items we requested and did not forget any of what we did order which has happened in the past. Wait staff in common areas of the pool area lounges or slow and took a while to get your order once what you did order it

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The layout of the ship was fine I did like the set up they had on the Lido deck for the buffet that we did not use it in a pair there were no long lines. The common areas were kept clean and every night you could see the staff sanitizing the areas. A good note I did not see anybody or hear of anybody getting sick. There are plenty of hand sanitizer stations. There were also wash stations before you go into in the Lido deck.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin size for the balcony room is smaller from previous balcony rooms we had on carnival. I believe this was due to the refurbishment of the boat which added more rooms thus making other room smaller. The carnival comfort women was very nice and the room was kept clean by our rooms to work, Johnny.

Ship tip

If you like to lounge in the sun I would Recommend you check out all the decks on your first day to find areas you prefer.

Ports of call

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

4 out of 5
We took a taxi with another couple to a beach about 20 minutes from the port. The price of a taxi is the same for one person or four. If you decide to take a taxi and go to the taxi area there are price fares on the pillars to the various location from port.

Grand Turk Island

3 out of 5
Small area typical carnival port with shops and nice beaches. So you know when you sit down on the lounge chairs, they are not free ($20 for two).

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Disembarkation is slow as normal unless you do the walk off at 7:15 AM. You still have the action of a sit down breakfast for the buffet on the Lido deck until nine. However you have to be out of the room by 8:30 AM. Once you do get off the ship you have to retrieve your luggage at Number stations. If you need a porter there are plenty and then you have to wait in customs
