Review summary

This was not my first cruise on the Sunshine. I told myself I would not go on the Sunshine again but when a 10 day cruise out of Charleston became available it was a no brainer. I will say the staff was very friendly and helpful. Emma (the CD) was great! She was always where ever the action was going on. Our cabin (ocean view) was as expected and it was kept clean. The night time entertainment lacked a lot. They have comedians every night. Sometimes even 5 shows a night! That was over kill. The band in the Ocean plaza was really good as was the duo in the Red Frog Pub and the Duo in the Atrium Lobby. Karaoke was reduced to several nights and the hours were 5:45 - 7:00pm. One of our friends loves to do karaoke and we had a 6:00 dinner. That did away with that unless she missed dinner. By midnight there was pretty much nothing to do, except the casino. It would really help to have better ventilation in there. There is a walkway through the middle of the casino that is used as the main walk way from forward to aft. Even there the smoke is terrible.

The ports were the main draw and the fact that this was a 10 day cruise. 2 of the ports I had never been to. St Kitts was beautiful. I am ready to go back! It rained our day in Martinique so we did not see much of it. Antigua was great, we actually docked at a port that I do not remember. We discovered a beach in St Thomas that we will definitely go back to.

The food lacked a LOT! Several people at our table got sick on lobster night. Which was the same night several of us sent ours back due to the fact that it was not fully cooked. Fried oysters were the same night and everyone sent them back at our table. I did not get them but the smell almost made us sick alone! Jiji's (Asian) was remarkable. We ate there the last night and had I known how good it was I would have eaten there many more times.

Embarkation & debarkation were very easy.. The ramp is a killer when you have bad knees and bad back though.

My first time on the Sunshine, but it wasn't terrible. The buffet should have been thrown overboard, but if you're not a pick everything to death kinda person you'll have a fantastic time.

I thought that currently, only the Ecstacy departed Charleston. Is that incorrect? I sailed on the Sunshine out of Port Canaveral and loved it. I'd love to sail on the Sunshine out of Charleston.

I totally agree momof4boys. The MDR was good but some days I was too tired to eat there. The buffet was horrible. And the fact that the pasta bar & Blue Iguana Cantina was only open from 12 to 2:30 or 3:30 just didn't cut it. I lost 5 lbs on this cruise. Which isn't a bad thing but when I was on the Fantasy in Sept 2014 everything was good

You either love the sunshine or hate it....I think they added to much to a smaller ship and I did not care for it and food was the worse of all the cruises I've taken but staff was wonderful. I love the valor, magic, and paradise

They seemed to be less visible toward the end of our cruise. I noticed the sprinkler system leaking but it wasn't causing the carpet to be soaked on the side of the hall so I don't know what else was leaking. We also had a woman determined to smoke on her balcony to the right of us. I called on her 4 times in 2 days. 3 times she admitted it. The 4th she said I was lying. Really now. Also mine & my mom's pictures kept getting switched on our cards one of which times took me 45 min to get back on the ship in St Kitts. My mom caught up to me from shopping & asked what was going on. Both cards had her picture. By this time it was a running joke with us. He took my picture said it was fixed & away we go. We went to guest services & Katrina said "No they've got you switched again" But hey at least my picture was back in the system. Lol. Sometimes you have to go with the flow & we were compensated because of other issues too so heck if the think that my mom has long blond hair & blue eyes & is 42 I'll go with that. Lol

We went to Antigua in March on a 14 day. We went zip lining for the 1st time over the rain Forrest. It was AWESOME!!!

9th should be fine. I've heard others talk about the 8th mainly. They had industrial dryers out in the hallways. I heard worse stories than ours though & it's my fault about the crowds. You can only take so many meds to deal with it. Lol. It was worth it to see St Kitts & Antigua alone. Hope you have a great time.

If you don't mind crowds you'll be ok. I have anxiety & Fibromyalgia but the Fantasy didn't bother me. The Sunshine did. I knew I was taking a chance but I wanted to see those islands so bad. There were also leaks up & down our deck (8th) as well as 7th & 6th portside. Thankfully not in our cabin though. I think the Ecstacy might be one I try next. Hope you have a good time on your cruise. A lot of people did love it.

Bn1viy.........Whatever the rest of your user name is did you did you not read? When a 10 day cruise became available out of CHARLESTON to those places she jumped at the chance. Many of us live near Charles & it's the only port we can get to easily. She plainly said she had a bad knee which could mean no long distance driving or any flying. I had never been on the Sunshine & will never go again but the ports were what drew me in even though I'd heard mostly bad reviews about this ship.

Jiji costs $15 per person. If no bar drinks/soda, that's it. It was pretty good. It was good experience & id try it once if you like Asian food. We loved the appetizers & egg rolls & soups, just not the entree so much.

What was the beach you found in St. Thomas? We went to Megan's Bay. It was absolutely beautiful. We are setting sail on Sunshine June of next year. It will be our first time on the ship.
