It was great being on a ship again. I knew I missed cruising, but didn't realize how much until I experienced the sights, sounds, smells, and rolling waves once again. It is truly my happy place 😍
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Much, much better than I expected, given some of the embarkation horror stories I've read about. Smooth as silk.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Ate at the buffet and main dining room mostly with a few forays to other venues. Main dining room was hit or miss. Buffet was generally good. My major disappointment was the Lucky Bowl Asian eatery. I mistakenly thought I would get a fresh wok meal like on past cruises, but that wasn't the case on this ship. Hardly any vegetables, pulled pork looked like pork nuggets, small portions. Mediocre at best. Guy's burgers is okay, not one of my favorites but it'll do when you're hungry. Loved the Seafood Shack although they could bump up the seasonings more.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Enjoyed the comedy acts. Didn't attend any of the stage shows. Lots of trivia and bingo so if you're not into that you could get bored. As long as I'm at sea I never get bored 😁
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff was great and so glad to be back at work. Shout outs to those who made my cruise so welcoming and enjoyable:
Stateroom - Bagus
Radiance dining room - Joel, Henrick, and Menchie
Buffet - Iwayan, Djarko
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Just to be clear, 5 stars for cleanliness, although I would've liked to have seen the crew encourage the passengers to wash their hands and use the hand sanitizers. To be fair, the placement of some of the sanitizer stations was a bit odd and not always convenient.
The ship design should be a separate category. I wasn't fond of this ship's layout at all, but it's a relatively older ship. Still, it could use a redesign. One pet peeve: no lights on the stateroom balcony. Really?
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Cabin was good. Warning, the walls seem to be very thin here. I don't ever recall hearing my neighbors as much as I did for this cruise. The fridge didn't work and I was told that's the way it is, but Bagus did make sure I had ice every day. Major drag was having no lights on the balcony. Had I known this beforehand I could've brought battery operated tea lights.
Ship tip
Bring ear guards for the crew. They have to wear N95 masks which, due to their very snug fit, can be painful on the ears. The crew isn't able to get shore leave at this time and ordering from Amazon can take at least a month to get.
An up and coming port, not much to do yet. It's a very small island, 1.5 miles at it's widest point and about 7-8 miles long. Still, can't go wrong with eating the local conch and hanging out at the beach!
