Review summary

Disappointed! This was my first, and now only, Carnival cruise. I chose this cruise because we took our daughter and two granddaughters, thinking the girls (9 & 11) would enjoy the activities. It was their first cruise and even they weren't impressed. The decor of the ship was ostentatious...too much pink leopard, patterns and lights. I'm all for fun but they need to edit, please...not seven different color patterns with blinking lights, cornucopia and unnecessary 3D affects. The food was sub-standard, especially in the Black Pearl. Everything looked beautiful on the plate but food was either over or under done and the fruit was CANNED...on a Caribbean cruse. Canned fruit?!?! Coffee everywhere was awful. The logistics of service in the buffet dining was terrible, hectic and chaotic. Lines were always long in the 24 hour service areas (pizza, deli and grill). Average wait in line was 30+ minutes. My daughter and granddaughters loved the double feature movies while playing in the pool. The girls ate their weight in soft, self-serve frozen yogurt. The kids camp was a great option for them and for us adults. Our outside cabins were nice and the beds comfortable. There was ample closet/storage space and drawers. However, there is only ONE outlet (US) and one international. Be sure to take a power strip and/or adapter. The worst is that they did "routine maintenance" late at night and into the early hours of the morning...the noise was unbearable (hammering, drilling). It continued throughout the cruise even after several complaints from me and others. All we got as "I'm sorry" but that didn't stop it nor was any type of compensation offered. Other than that, the staff...EVERYONE...was welcoming, gracious, very willing to help and caring. Carnival just isn't my type of cruising. I'll stay with NCL, Princess and RCL.
