Review summary

This was our first cruise. I had read mixed reviews of the ship because of its age, but I was very impressed. I was also worried that it would be too family oriented, as our children are grown. But the ship was well designed to separate family activity and include adult activity as well.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
All of the food was great EXCEPT the buffet. The staff was amazing, but the food in the buffet was a little less than good. Even for a buffet. But there were lots of other options that totally mad up for it!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
21+ hot tub, putt putt

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We saw two comedians, a dance show by the crew, Kevin's Love and Marriage. Everything I saw was good enough that I wish I had gone to see more of the shows!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Notable servers - First, our room steward Iputi. We love him so much. Anywhere we were on the ship, he knew us by name and recognized us and made us feel at home. Henry in the atrium bar and one other bartender, whose name I cannot remember all the way, but I believe was Yudhi? -- both excellent bartenders, conversationalists, and ensured everyone was having fun. And Yogi in the burrito shop. BEST BREAKFAST BURRITO MAKE EVER.

Ship Quality

That ship was constantly cleaned! Very impressed.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I wish there was away to keep the mattresses together. we did tend to create a "crack" between the two beds. But I thought it was a great use of space!

Ship tip

Try to find out what is going on BEFORE you sail. There were things we were not prepared for (ugly sweaters) that we totally would have packed for if we knew ahead of time.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

No excursion. We barely made the boat!

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
This was very scenic. Did the Catamaran sail and snorkel. IT WAS EXCEL?LENT! The crew was amazing. We were advised not to take our passports off the ship for identification, but that made me miss the opportunity to collect stamps. Also, I wish they had remembered to advise us to have cash for tips available. We completely did not think of that and wish we could have tipped out excursion crew.

Grand Turk Island

4 out of 5
We did not do an excursion. I was shocked that this wasn't more scenic!! Turks was on my bucket list. But this island was a little unimpressive, although the water was crazy beautiful. But there was a broken down container half sunk into the water at the port (totally outside of Carnival's control).

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
I cannot get over how efficiently the crew got 2,700 passengers to disembark.
