Review summary

Overall had a great time but felt sorry for those who were seasick - there were a lot of them upon our return. The crew made us feel safe and left us with the impression they were working to make sure we knew that was the case, and they managed to keep us well entertained (Amber, Chacho and Robb - should do a comedy special!). Downside was lack of rule enforcement, particularly on the dining room and PLEASE stop allowing smoking in the casino - someone is sure to sue and win over getting lung diseases from working there! I never understood why our 32 year old daughter - who did her own booking with her friend - ended up on our dining roster (the app said she had assigned dining but not in our restaurant apparently) - but not her friend and we could not book a dinner together. We were able to do this with friends on a previous Carnival cruise.

Smooth - some port staff could use an attitude check - primarily outside in yellow vests

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We received all- star service from our cabin steward Kadek and from Valeen and Ricardo at the Lido Bar, and from Daphne every morning when I went for fried eggs or an omelet, at dinner Jonabehl was an exceptional wait staff and when we had issues on the deck walking around the boat for exercise Billy (by the pool) and Tedi on the decks were terrific. Amber is a terrific cruise director and our overall favorite is Robb (two b's!) - he was so much fun and so knowledgeable when helping us. Thrilled to peek in as he was wed in the Piano Bar while a stein holding contest was going on a floor below - only on a cruise ship!

Cabin / Stateroom

Snug but kept very clean which is much appreciated! It would be helpful on future ship designs to have the toilet on an angle in that tight space and a u-shaped lip around the shower would help keep the water IN the shower.

Ship tip

Not used to sailing? Bring Dramamine and a good attitude.

Upon our return the yellow vests outside seemed like they were at loose ends. Please tell them adults know how to avoid being hit when crossing the street and to please use logic rather than their preferences when telling people where to walk, stand, etc. Or give them badges and send them out on the street - some are a bit harsh for no reason.

Cozumel, Mexico Did not visit port

We landed in Costa Maya instead - sadly we know that Carnival knew that we were never going to Costa Maya and was simply not forthright about that - Internet - Cozumel's port was closed before we ever left

Disembarkation

In Miami -slow and disordered because the one thing we learned quickly is that rules are NOT enforced on this cruise (particularly in the Lido dining). People hopped into line no matter where they stayed as soon as they realized no one was checking and once they were out they were allowed to pass, leaving those who did follow the rules pushed further and further back. Also the bus drivers were not briefed well nor ready. Our bus had a bathroom but no toilet paper. I think our driver knew that bcz he stopped at a rest stop where we spent at least 30 minutes. Also he attempted to drop us at the wrong place but was stopped by a port official who informed him several busses had just dropped off people that would have to walk the blocks back to the terminal in the dark because power was out on some streets (some in wheelchairs) but our driver turned around and took us back to the correct terminal on;y to be yelled at because he parked wrong. A family from another bus that pulled up after us had not gotten a bag that had all their toiletries in it and the female bus driver REFUSED to open the luggage compartment again! They just told another driver they wanted to file a complaint. I will say that our bus driver, Oscar, was a nice guy.
