Review summary

Overall the cruise was fun and my family and I had a great time. As a family we could not have celebrated my grandsons graduation from high school in a better place. We had had a lot of fun every day! I broke my ankle two days prior to cruising so it was a little difficult for me to get around. But nonetheless I did get around and had fun in the shops, restaurants, casino, listening to DJ's and music, the Comedy Club, and just relaxing on deck with my family. I would recommend this cruise to anyone who wants to get away and have a great time! Thanks Carnival......

Embarkation

A bit confusing and although I had a broken ankle and was on crutches had to wait in line. I was told that because of my ankle they would let me and my family board before the crowd to avoid getting injured and being separated from my family. Had to struggle getting on and was separated from my family. Disappointed.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The Destiny Dining roof staff was AWESOME. Maria was FANTASTIC! She made our dinners very pleasant and took great care of all of us....there were 9 of us all together. She remembered our names, very personable, what we were drinking and really made our dinners special. THANK YOU MARIA! The remaining wait staff was very good...all were very accommodating. The Head Waiter was very nice and took great care of us. Their show was so much fun! Loved it. The buffets were good but the Guy Fierri (sp?) burgers were delicious!

Onboard Activities

Broke my ankle prior to the trip so did not participate in many activities but found fun things to do shopping, reading, casino, relaxing, etc.

Entertainment

The shows were good. I really enjoyed the Comedy Club. Music and DJ's were great!

Children's Programs

We did not have any small childrent that used the program in our family but one of our friends had a small child who loved the program.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our wait staff was Fantastic, particularly Maria who took care of us in the Destiny Dining Room for Dinner. She really is a great waitress and very accommodating to our family. She is very pleasant and really took care of all of us. She was just the best! She deserves a bonus or a raise. Always had our orders correct, they were served hot.....the BEST SERVICE! Thanks Maria! Dudi our room steward was wonderful too, he was so nice and kept our room looking great, bedding always clean and bathroom clean, he always had a towel animal for us when we got back to our room. He brought me extra pillows and a shower chair to accommodate my broken ankle. Always helpful. Great Service! Thanks Dudi! Hattie Ou in Guest Services helped us with our questions and was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Thanks Hattie! Tetiana our Housekeeping Manager assisted us with a foul odor in our cabin as we left the port. She did so in a timely manner and was very pleasant. Thank you Tetiana! All of the staff members on this cruise were very nice, pleasant and accommodating. I wasn't sure how it would be cruising with a broken ankle but every crew member I came in contact with was very helpful and made it a lot easer for me to enjoy my cruise. Thank you!

Ship Quality

The common areas were clean and well maintained. I was surprised that the pool on this ship was so small. Also, the ramps on the ship for handicap use are difficult to maneuver. Some are too steep and it was difficult to maneuver over the thresholds with the scooter my doctor suggested that I use. The ramp going from the pool area to the buffet had no handrail and there was a drop that someone could easily fall off of and injure themselves, if they were crowed off of it by other passengers. I came very close to being pushed off by anxious passengers which would have been very bad. Had there been handrails, I could have held on to them until they passes. Casino was smoke filled and smelled like cigarettes all the time. The elevators were too small for someone with a wheelchair or a scooter. I had to back out of the elevator with the scooter which was difficult as people were coming onto the elevator. Couldn't see behind me and almost fell several times. Couldn't turn around in the elevator because there wasn't enough room. Doesn't seem like much thought was put into elevators, ramps, thresholds, or rooms to accommodate handicapped individuals. Really disappointed.

Cabin / Stateroom

After I broke my ankle I called and requested a Handicapped Cabin which my doctor told me to get. I was told there were none available which was disappointing. While the cabin was small with the scooter and crutches, two twin beds, etd., Dudi our room steward made me feel very comfortable with extra pillows to elevate my leg and a shower stool for the bathroom. This helped me so much....Thank You Dudi! The only other issue was the smell in the cabin as we were pulling out of port...like paint...or fuel..very nasty. Tetiana the Housekeeping Manager came to our room and said she would take care of it and did. The odor came back from time to time.

Disembarkation

Our disembarkation was delayed for some reason and we had to wait for some time. Then everyone was croweded into the small elevator areas on their respective floors and it was very difficult for me with crutches as they would not let me out with my family before the crowd. I had to wait and was pushed and shoved and got separated from my family. When I called to let them know I broke my ankle prior to taking the cruise they told me I would embark and disembark before the crowd to make it easier but this was not the case. Very disappointed.
