Review summary

Negative points of Havana hospitality would be offset but beyond congeniality levels of Caymans. Simple items are overpriced in Caymans but these simple items are scare or non-existent in Cuba. Impressed with Carnival to the point that we just booked a second cruise in January 2020 for Aruba. Don't be fooled by discounted prices offered by Carnival. This is value versus overpriced cruise lines offering similar amenities.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Great time swimming with Sting Rays in Caymans, but Havana excursions still need some improvement. As much as Caymans demonstrated organization and professionalism, Cuba is still worlds away in welcoming tourists and conviviality.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
MDR was well organized, clean and wait staff remembered guests to name and preferences. Buffet was controlled mayhem. Guys Burgers was welcome change and room service was lightning fast.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Fun Times listed most popular activities but online hub app had some that were 'hidden' and enjoyable. Cruise Director ( Erin) had energy to spare and crowd participated and engaged in excitement.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Comedians ( Daimon Sumner and Cee Jay Jones) were exceptional and kept the guests laughing at themselves and people in general for the entire 30 minute set.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room Steward ( Marvin) saw to our every need before we even realized that we may need it. Totally professional and personable.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Overall, the ship was neat and orderly. Staff were always visible cleaning. On last day, sewerage smell was present at lobby level, but overwise, clean and orderly.

Cabin / Stateroom

Ship tip

Don't be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone. Participate in the events, use the hub or Fun Times publications to plan our day. Relax and realize that not everything is going to go exactly as planned. The staff are there to make every minute enjoyable. With a ratio of 3 passengers to every staff person, they do their best and it shows in many more positive areas.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

4 out of 5
The Embarkation point for Carnival was dis-organized on street level. Need better signage and better trained staff. Computers were slow and sometimes unresponsive when checking in.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Well organized operation. From the leaving the security of the cruise ship to ensuring that everyone got back safely, top notch professionalism and organization.

HAVANA, CUBA

3 out of 5
Still a lot of dis-repair evident in Havana. But there are isolated areas of renewal evident. Better organization is needed from customs, immigration, currency exchange, vendors, transportation. But it is rather new to the tourist market and time will help improvement. Currently, it is struggling and progress is on the horizon.
