Review summary

I always had made the comment, that I looked for a reason not to like Carnival and could never find one. After this cruise I think I found a reason…

Embarkation

3 out of 5
A little chaotic- previous cruise didn’t get off the ship until10:30. It was a conga line to get checked in but once accomplished getting on board was easy enough

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Main dining room was a bust. Same menu as pre-COVID. You would think that with being idle for over a year, Carnival could have come up with some new entrees. Selection pretty limited. Lido breakfast “ran out” of bacon on day 3. Guys pig and anchor was good and steakhouse was decent.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Shows were ok about what I expect on any cruise.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Hard working crew. Cabin attendant “Wayan” was attentive and efficient.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Again, for being idle for over a year the cabin was “worn”. Nothing updated

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Meh… aft facing cabin; deck furniture looked like it was reclaimed from a yard sale. Last day at sea the smokestack literally blew cinders and ash all over my wife while on the balcony. Balcony glass was filthy and window glass not much better.

Ship tip

Tired ship-consider other lines

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
No excursion- embarkation and disembarkation

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy enough. We chose Self assist and were off the ship by 8:30 a.m.

We had cabin attendant Wayan on our cruise as well, he was wonderful. We on the other hand had a great time without the many complaints you had. So sorry you found so many problems. We will def book on Magic again.

I could complain about every cruse I have been on if I looked hard enough. But we loved everyone and always come back for more.

We were on magic in November, bacon was available every other day but at omlette station i believe was always there. Don't mind same old food when I'm not the one having to make it or wash dishes afterwards. don't pay much attention to old and worn out furniture too busy enjoying the ocean views or people watching.

Hopefully they’ll get their act together soon

Why would you look for something wrong? If you look, you will find many things wrong. Regardless of what it is, cruises, resorts, hotels etc.

it was kind of hard to update a ship, when even the dry dock ports were shut down and people couldn't work together and all had to work from home. why would look for a reason to not like a specific line? its like your going on the cruise expecting to find something and looking for something to hate

Went to guys burgers if I wanted bacon. They always had it.

Well if you look hard enough you can find anything. Funny that most people complain that the menu was not as good as pre Covid. I would be OK repeating a meal I haven't had in a couple years.

Thanks for the review. It will be a while before they update many of the ships since they took on billions in debt to survive the pandemic. I have seen reports that Carnival was only serving bacon every other day for several months due to supply shortages, and I suspect cost. My local grocery store only has bacon in stock about 50% of the time. When they do, brand name is $ 9-10 a pound. If worn furnishings are an issue, book Mardi Gras for the next few years.

The same menu as pre Covid? You have to kidding. Cruise lines are still not making money, with less passengers

I stopped reading when you said you always look for a reason not to like carnival and now you found one

The problem they were almost out of business and had to borrow money at crazy high rates because they had no income coming. I was on the Magic a few weeks back and saw some of the same, curtains was old and wore out and saw a bunch of rust on the lido deck and thought how can that be with a year of nothing but then realized they just had no money to spend so I understood.

I sailed on the Magic in October 7th and nothing you described I experienced. We missed our boarding appt and still made it on the ship in 20 minutes but sorry you didn’t enjoy your cruise.
