Review summary

We knew the ship was small & outdated but we decided on Carnival because the price for one day in the Bahamas for my niece’s sweet 16 birthday was as good of a deal as we were going to find. Instead, she spent most of the day upset in the cabin because Carnival couldn’t get us any help off of the ship to do anything safely. They also refused to help us do anything for her ON the ship (we asked for a break at the spa or something somewhere but we’re adamantly denied). They sent her a cake the next day for her birthday and a drink coupon…for a minor…. When I went TOTALLY CALMLY to guest services for help, the trainee couldn’t work through the screens on the computer & the manager would t respond to my questions or even look at me when she did speak. She whispered to the trainer but wouldn’t have any interaction with me at all. It was a very disappointing day & huge waste of our money chance to make an unforgettable birthday for my niece. My sister & niece were first time cruisers (my 9th cruise) and I don’t have any idea how I’m going to get them to go on another cruise. My sister & I will be sharing our story on all of our social media platforms, as well as word of mouth.

Food was good but lines were RIDICULOUS. All of the - so slow.

Pools were like Petri dishes. People eating & drinking in them. Shops were extremely small & very little product/purchase selection.

Our room attendant, Ketut was awesome & very sweet. Guest service manager & trainee were EXTREMELY rude - wouldn't even look at my face when I was asking questions.

Ship Quality

We knew the ship was old but a huge brand like Carnival should not let their ships go so long between decor updates. Our stateroom was horrible: NO cold water (had to purchase & use bottled water), water pressure at the sink was less than 1/4”, my sister hand wiped our entire room with Clorox wipes & all of them were filthy.

Bed was comfortable, lighting was full yellow, bunk was not folded down for 3rd passenger & we had to call over & over and sit in hold over 10 minutes to have steward pull it down, my sister cleaned the entire room with Clorox wipes & they were filthy when she finished. Size was really small but we knew that when we chose the room; we asked many time if we could upgrade but the ship was at capacity. Room was directly above the show stage & was REALLY loud.

Ship tip

Don’t book this ship. Just don’t. Some of it was the ship but a lot of what ruined the trip was the staff (other than Ketut, our room attendant )

We were able to get off the ship around 10:15am, but when we showed up to our excursion at noon, we were told 1, that it has cancelled, which we understand can happen but 2, by the time they told us it was too late to join ANY OTHER excursion. So did we really go to the Bahamas? We did for an hour to buy a souvenir on the dock. Many locals approached us to buy marijuana or go down alleys. We did not feel safe to hire a taxi to take us away from the ship after these encounters.

Disembarkation

Walked out of our room (with our luggage) and off the ship. We made it through customs in no time because we got off so early & carried our luggage.

While at Nassau, they should have given a heads up on the excursion. However, once it was canceled, there is nothing the cruise line really can do for you they don't have much control at the ports of call. There is port security and police all around the port. You could have asked for help getting a certified cab to take you to a nice beach or one off inclusive hotels and purchased a day pass. No matter where you eat for dinner on her birthday, all you had to do is tell your waiter, and they would have brought out her dessert with a group of singing staff belting out Happy Birthday. If you had let your room Steward know, he may have done some special towel animal for her. Anything beyond that you have to purchase. Cruise lines don't hand out specials to anyone on their birthday. You could have brought your own decorations and done up the room yourself. You could have done more to have planned on making it special.

If you wanted to celebrate her birthday then you should have bought the birthday package. The room would have been decorated and they would have sung to her at dinner and given here a dessert of their choice. Why did she need helping off the ship? I was on this ship in November and had a great time. We even had some extra time on board due to the storm that had hit when we were headed back.

I sail in that ship in 2015 I wasn't disappointed I enjoyed at best and wasn't refurbished completely at that time. So I see your review invalid

I hate the cruise was not what you expected, but help me understand, why should a cruise line should give you onboard discounts because you couldn’t do what you wanted to at a port? I really believe your frustration could have been avoided had you been realistic in your expectations. Also, the decor doesn’t change overtime. The old world feel is why many cruise older vessels. Carpet, bedding, and basic furnishing will be upgraded and replaced when necessary, but the look and feel will remain the same.

Sadly, you buy based only on price and you probably will be disappointed. Very rare you get a discount for something as normal as a birthday (even though some social groups make a big deal out of 16).
