This was a pre-Christmas cruise with friends. Despite prior info from Carnival, we were a little disappointed in the level of holiday cheer. ONE holiday show (mid-day on our sea day, with participation from the kids from Camp Ocean), no holiday movies on Lido, tree-lighting on the first evening but no other planned holiday events in the atrium/lobby,
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Easy, no lines, very short wait-time to board the ship
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Food was the usual Carnival fare, nothing crazy. Portions are adequately-sized.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We primarily relaxed in the Serenity area while onboard
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Violinists and other entertainers in in the atrium/lobby area deserve FIVE stars, The "America Rocks" show deserves (generously) ONE star - just because you CAN turn the amps all the way up, doesn't mean you SHOULD - lyrics were nearly unintelligible due to the volume - AND just because you have extremely bright flashing strobes doesn't mean that they should be aimed AT the audience - had to cover our eyes in several spots to avoid being blinded. A slight decrease in volume and considerate use of lighting would make for a much better show!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Excellent service from our room steward, Arturo, MDR wait staff, Allan, Giovanni, and Jovelito, and our Serenity Bar (and elsewhere) bartender, Gleeson! Also, ZERO minutes added to our YTD dinner wait-time to request the same staff each night
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
Poor Liberty - I think she is due fro drydock and it shows. Just general shabbiness - clean, but showing her age.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Comfort/size and cleanliness were fine. An inside cabin, we got what we paid for and expected. There was quite a bit of engine noise, but we expected that as well
Ship tip
Don't expect a mini-Mardi Gras. Liberty is an older ship, showing her age, and doesn't have the bells and whistles of the newer vessels.
The ongoing construction in the port area gives a great indication of just how spectacular this area is going to be in a few more months. The downside, though, is that the port can now accommodate more ships, with FIVE in port on the day of our stop - crazy busy!
Downside - There need to be some rules regarding "self-assist" disembarkation. People with multiple LARGE bags trying to self-assist is just crazy! UPSIDE - Why ANYONE would choose to travel without a passport at this point is beyond me. Walked off the ship, up to a facial recognition station, grabbed luggage, and out of the terminal in MINUTES, while folks with driver's license or other ID stood in line to be checked.
its hard for workers that never stop to decide what holiday to cheer fot....
You normally get a christmas tree and decorations the week before through new years.....
Got to make your own holiday spirit...and hope it rubs off....
Merry Christmas to all.......
