We were very disappointed in this cruise!!! We used to be Carnival fans, and used to love the Liberty... But this ship looks bad now. Everything was WAY worse than we remembered from our previous Liberty and Carnival cruises!! This was our LAST Carnival cruise... Even at the crazy cheap deal we got for this short cruise... Its NOT worth it!! Sad to say, for the first time, we couldn't wait to get off this ship!!! We can't wait to get back on board RC Oasis class ships in March 2020!!!
Embarkation
3 out of 5
The terminal staff were fine, but actually getting on the ship was a mess. Entering on deck 3 was a cluster, and elevators were SLOW!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The food venues didn't follow the times posted in the Fun Times paper. VERY limited choices at the buffet compared to previous cruises on the Liberty or Valor. Only a few desert options each meal. Lines for Guys Burgers and Blue Iguana taco bar were insane long!! Which also made for a huge choke point trying to walk on deck 9.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Hot tubs were tepid temp and gross. Pools were jammed packed, the Dive-in Theater volume was too low to hear dialog, especially when you had loud drinkers at the bar on the pool deck.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Shows were cheap theme park quality at best...
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Though staff was friendly, most shuffled around and didn't seem to do much work. We were totally shocked to see the Liberty so dirty and is HORRID shape!! Saw room steward once, and did the bare basics on our balcony cabin. Buffet staff were slow and did zero to make dining nice. We used to LOVE the Liberty dining... WOW its gone downhill compared to the other times on board!!!
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
I'd give the ship a 0 stars if I could!! There was rust everywhere!! HORRIBLE corrosion control, deck was a dirty disgusting mess, some rails rusted through, our balcony scupper was total rust, every window was covered in thick salt scale... This was NOT the Liberty we sailed on 3 and 5 yrs ago!!
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Cabin is a decent size, balcony is small compared to RC. Biggest ding is DIRTY and rusted balcony, and tiny bathroom with shower curtain.
Ship tip
Skip the Liberty.... If you go,do everything early or be prepared to wait LONG for everything!
What a CLUSTER!!! 1 Security person scanning cards to disembark the ship for the first hr!! We did self debark, and we didn't get off the ship and through customs till 930am!! On the Liberty with less than 3,000 people it took 2.5hrs!!! Compared to on any of the Oasis class ships of 6,300+ we are off the ship and through customs in 10 min.... usually by 7am!!
We had a similar experience with sewage smell on rc enchantment of the seas. We were thinking of switching to Carnival next time around. It looks like the size and age of the ship matters more then the ship line.
I was in it 2 weeks ago. The age was a issue and we kept smelling sewage. Entertainment I have the same feeling on. Food was great though. I think that is my last Liberty cruise. Next up Horizon in 74 days.
The liberty was fine when i went you probally just look at everything also the liberty was made in 2005 and the oasis class started in 2009 and they are 225,000GT compared to liberty's 110,000 GT there is a big difference btw the two. You have a class from 2002-2007 comparing it to a class from 2009-Present if you want the best quality then go on Crystal cruises, seabourn or viking.
Glad you found a cruise line that meets your expectations. But you are comparing RCL newest ships with CCL older class ships. You should at least try to compare apples to apples.
Too bad you didn't have any fun. Lots of other people have good reviews and had fun on the same ship. Maybe they were looking at different things. You won't find a ship afloat that doesn't have rust. I've seen rust on a one year old ship. Hope you have good vacations in the future.
