While we had a good time, the next time we book a voyage it will likely be with a different cruise line, as Carnival just didn’t impress.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Super easy and fast time getting on the ship. Very efficient!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Food and drink in every area of the ship was very tasty! In particular I recommend trying the pineapple chipotle martini. So delicious!
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We had our daughter with us, and would’ve liked to see even more activities geared towards children. She enjoyed the pool and water slide, but we did not go in as the weather was unfavorable. The Build a Bear was fun.
Appreciated that the library was stocked chock full of board games to enjoy when the weather was poor.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Honestly and most unfortunately, I’d have to say that the entertainment on this cruise was my least favorite that I’ve ever seen.
Most of the on board musicians were great, particularly the brass band and steel drum player, however, the shows in the theater were lacking.
We saw the Flick show and the singers were just not that good and the dancing/choreography unpolished, and the Hasbro game show was just okay. We’ve seen MUCH better performances on other voyages.
The comedy acts were good.
Children's Programs
3 out of 5
Again, would’ve liked to see even more activities geared towards children, but our daughter enjoyed the Build a Bear experience, and the Camp Ocean club.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Staff were just okay. Some were fantastic while others were clearly completely disinterested - even annoyed - by their jobs.
We had a few days of service in the main dining room with some being excellent, others lacking. The hostess at the main dining room could not have been more rude or appearing aggravated by her job. I noticed her rolling her eyes at guests multiple evenings in a row, which was unfortunate to see.
Bartenders were working hard, but there weren’t enough of them to facilitate prompt service.
Our room attendant was not good at all. One day we had to cal for service, and we never received turndown service or a second room tidying.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
We love the design and layout of this ship, but it is looking more and more like its time for a refurbishing.
Many areas of the ship smelled of some sort of sewage backup, and the rooms just look plain tired. The shower in our stateroom had a drain that did not work, and even despite us informing the staff, it was not fixed so we had water overflowing our shower every day.
I didn’t see any staff facilitating hand sanitizing throughout the ship as I’ve seen on past voyages, making me wonder how gross the ship really was with many people likely not washing their hands.
Cabin / Stateroom
2 out of 5
Standard cabin and layout. Plenty of storage. Bed was comfortable. Overall appearance was tired. Shower did not drain well at all.
Ship tip
Don’t book a short voyage! This was our second time sailing on the Liberty and while the crowd was fun during our first trip last year, the crowd we experienced on this shorter trip was a much more rowdy “party crowd”. Not what we were hoping for our fun weekend celebrating our young daughter’s birthday. We noticed a lot of completely disgusting and inappropriate (ie. nearly nonexistent) clothing and behavior (ie. adults screaming and running down cabin hallways at 2am). It was sadly, just NOT a very classy group of people at all - presumably since it was a less expensive, shorter trip. Next time, I highly doubt we’ll choose Carnival for this reason, as it was made painfully clear that their “rowdy party ship” reputation is still alive and well.
Feels unsafe. Lots of drugs out in the open and shady looking people constantly bugging you to buy their junk. Don’t bother getting off the ship at this port.
To those suggesting that I am “fussy” (never once did I complain to ANY staff) or hyper-critical, I actually thought my review was pretty fair, which is why I titled it the “good AND the bad.” I never said everything about the entire trip was horrible, however there were some marked shortcomings! If I were Carnival (or any business for that matter), I’d want to know the positive and negative opinions of my guests. That’s how businesses IMPROVE their product.
You sound like a blast to cruise with would love to be on a cruise with you ,I work for a five star resort in one of the largest vacation destinations in the world for one of the top companies in the business, we have a name for guest who love to complain we call them fussy guests sounds better than major pain in the butt
