Review summary

This was my first and last time on this particular cruiseline. Custom was very rude at the front gate as you enter on the boat. I forgot my brith certificate at home, but this was my first time on a cruise ship. We was all so excited about the trip. Custom, and customer service ask me to leave or show my birth certificate. The only thing I had was my I.D and other paper that would prove that I was from the u.s . In Just 2mins things really turned bad. There was three or four employee telling me to leave, and that’s when I had a panic attack and could not breathe still no one cared about that. I could have dead right there and the way they acting and looking at me no one cared. #1 I was from Atlanta #2 no one could tell me or direct me on how to leave and not be loss. There was 19 people in my group, and I did not want them to miss the boat. I was so scared, but your staff did not care. I was then able to have a family member at home to tx my brith cer to my phone within 5min and I was able to enter the ship. I know you have your rules and that’s ok but your custom, and customer service need more training on there attitude when explaining your policy to customer, and also how to prevent incident like what happen to me. I will never refer anybody I know to your cruise line.

Come on you people’s! I do agree Denisea10sc. This is not carnival fault. We are only human. I get that, but no one know how this person day started. If everything started off wrong from home for this person, then most of the time your day will end in the wrong direction. Sometime problem’s like this cannot be help just handle different. The group leader on the other hand could have help direct this person in the right direction to return home after all the cruise do have the rules. Lesson learned! Concern sister!

Not sure I can understand a negative review of the cruise line when it was your fault you didn't have the appropriate documents as required by federal law to board the ship. That would be like blaming the airline because you don't have an ID to get through the TSA checkpoint.

Lord have mercy.

We are all human and make mistakes and I can understand how this was a nightmare for you but Carnival was NOT at fault. Chalk it up as lesson learned and next time check, check, and check again to know you are prepared.

So, it was Carnivals fault YOU didn't have the proper paperwork that YOU forgot and ageed to have when you booked your cruise. It was Carnivals fault Customs would not pass you thru the check in without the proper paperwork YOU forgot. It's Carnivals fault they would not hold the line for YOU to get someone to send the proper paperwork. The one at fault is YOU. The other people were doing their job. YOU did not do yours.

I think you are lucky they even allowed you on with a phone picture. I leave on 8 days and all of our certificates are in paper protectors in my suitcase already. I even took my teenagers state ID. No sir, you will not lose that. 😫

Agree. Proper documentation is vital when traveling!!

The one major thing I check before I leave home, by the way is from Augusta, GA about 120 miles from Atlanta, is my documents. If I forget something that's on me no one else. Don't blame Carnival. I have cruised on Carnival, Disney and Royal Caribbean it's all the same. Customs is federal law. Just chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Agree with all the other posters. You were panicking and distressed because you forgot a document. Carnival is trying to move thousands of people, you can’t expect them to hold up a line while you freak out. You don’t have the proper documentation, it won’t just appear...please leave. In reality you should be recommending carnival, because in my opinion they did you HUGE favor by accepting your birth certificate via text. You didn’t state how your cruise experience was otherwise....book again, remember key documents, and have a great time from start to finish.

I always find it amazing that the most important thing about a cruise ship is the documents. How in the world did you forget anything as important as that as much time as you've invested to book the cruise? Next time try to be a little bit more prepared.

Erm who forgot thier birth certificate ? Whose fault was that

Sunflower90    6 years ago

Suggestion, next time you vacation particularly out of the country when you book your trip get all of your documents together and put them in your suitcase.

Your experience had nothing to do with the cruise. The fact is that you didn't have proper identification. This is not just a Carnival rule, it's the law.

Should have read the contract when booking. It clearly states excepted forms of ID to be able to sail. You totally dropped the ball on this one.

Sorry but ....Customs and immigration have nothing to do with the cruise company they are federal ...and have rules and guidelines it's up to you as a passenger to ensure all your paperwork is up to date first cruise or 20th cruise you would of not been allowed on any ship of if your paperwork and passport is not in order you would not be able to fly ...same same it's totally your responsibility and would have the same issue with any cruise line...
