Review summary

Okay imma be completely honest with you, it was possibly one of the worse experiences of my life. I have never been on a cruise and thought it’d be fun, I was very wrong. Carnival may be the most manipulating, cash hungry system on the sea; they put you on a 2-Star boat and then take advantage of every disadvantage being on sea brings. First and foremost they have you pay for the WiFi but not just one fee. They break it into packages so even if you pay the extra 20 to get internet, you can literally only use Instagram, Snapchat, and one other application; no safari, no FaceTime, nothing. For the normal, regular WiFi you must cough up a mean $200 for 3 full days of use. The rooms are even worse, literally one outlet no matter how many people you share a room with (my room had four by the way) so even if you do pay for the WiFi, you won’t ever have enough juice to use your phone. I honestly don’t know if other cruises give you free drinks but Carnival definitely doesn’t. They over charge heavily for alcohol and soda, yes, soda isn’t even included. You can by the drink pass if you want to spend another $200-300 but even if you do there’s a limit to how many drinks you can order a day; about 10-15 i believe. Okay big deal no alcohol, now you can finally get sober buttt there’s another problem, the water is absolutely terrible. Carnival is so cheap they use an on board filter that literally just boils seawater and shoots it up to you. The drinking water, shower water, and dare I say toilet water are of the same exact caliber. Don’t worry, they have bottled water on board and they even put some in your room, but wait, it’s not free either, you’re looking at $4 a pop for some off brand, foreign water. Sorry but it doesn’t end there, it gets even worse, much worse. The destination of my cruise was to the Bahamas and let me tell you what these communist did; they bring you to one true port in Nassau and it’s not even all that but the day after they bring you to an Island owner by who else, Carnival Cruises. On this island and on the whole entire boat you can’t use cash nor card just Carnival money but on the island if you wanna sit back and relax, the drink card DOESNT EVEN WORK. You spend $200 on a drink card for 3 days and you can’t even use it for one whole day!! It is utter madness! Doesn’t stop there though, the workers are horrible but to be honest, I do not blame them. Talked to one of them to get their side of the story and turns out Carnival runs a modern day slave ship. These poor (not money poor but sad poor) people work 8-10 months out of the year, 7 days a week, roughly 5am-9pm, and are given food and board, obviously, but nothing else! It’s sickening and Carnivals profits are through the roof because of their greed and lack of social responsibility. The final thing I will add is that the boat shakes like a stripper in magic city just absolute rocking, it makes you sick throughout dinner it’s that bad. I urge you PLEASE do not ever go on a carnival cruise you will regret it I promise you. If anyone on Yelp or any other forum gives it a positive review it is because they have never been out of their small town in Wyoming much less on a boat so their idea of a good time is completely scued. If you are a person from small town Wyoming you’ll probably have fun but I assure you there is a better option to choose from other than Carnival!

This comment is proof positive that PRIOR PLANNING AND RESEARCH are essential 🤨

Try the carnival magic it is a great ship lots of things to do

Got off Liberty in May. Everyone was great. I don't know what your problem is, do your research next time. Why do you think you should get free drinks and wifi? Every other cruise line does this as well. How many drinks in a day do you need?

MissJennyFaye    6 years ago

$6 50.... back of a lot less than at Disney!!!

MissJennyFaye    6 years ago

You really think the crew doesn't get paid and you should get free drinks and WiFi? Ok. You picked one of the least expensive cruise lines in the business and slept 4 to a room, so I'm sure you got a pretty good deal. It just costs what it costs. You should do a little research before you cruise again, bring a power strip for your cabin, and chilled. I just got off the Liberty today and we had a great time. Cruising isn't everyone's cup of tea. That's okay. But don't blame the ship or company or believe the staff aren't paid. They work an 8 month contract, go home for 2-3 months, then do it again.

How much is a budlight on the liberty lol

If you can't unplug from the internet for a 3 or 4 day cruise then stay home. I really don't understand people like you. Smh

amytoadvine    6 years ago

Wow.. I love carnival and my phone is in the safe. I'm on vacation⚓⚓🍹🍹

ladydiva42    6 years ago

I think you wrnt on a cruise without doing your researc. Did you know you are allowed to bring your own soda on the ship? Also ask the room attendant for an extension cord or you could even bring your own. As far as Wi-Fi i have no advice for yoy because it's not important to me while I'm on vacation. Vacation means no computer no phone no work.

Knowledge is power lol

#firstworldproblems And FYI...the water that goes to you toilet at home is the same water that comes out of your kitchen sink...that you drink. 🙄

CrystalM    6 years ago

Every extra additional charge you could come across while on your cruise was all available for you to access on carnivals website. You should’ve done research before booking. 😂Also most employees tell absurd stories to guilt cruisers into tipping more.

CVCruiser    6 years ago

Wow... Can you be any more insulting!?!?! You obviously did zero research, and are clueless of how cruise ships operate, what working conditions are at sea, or island ports. Maybe you should pull your head out of your social media BS and actually see how the real world works before showing your ignorance to the world!! MOST of the workers Ive talked to on cruise ships are thankful for their jobs as they work hard (as ALL sailors do), but they make 10x more on cruise ships than they would in their own countries!! It's a shame they have to deal with ungrateful, entitled feeling people as you appear to be!! My 2-cents... stay far FAR away from cruises! Its much better for all of us who appreciate and live cruising!!

sjohnson1024    6 years ago

All cruise lines work about the same way for the most part so no reason to pick on Carnival. Agree on doing your research first. That way you know in advance what your in for, can plan accordingly, and hopefully can enjoy the experience!

terriesanchez    6 years ago

Did you ever read ANYTHING about cruising before you took one? Much of what you are complaining about is addressed in reviews, blogs and yes... This forum! Cruising isn't for everyone, but you have to go into it with some information... Not blindly. If you were to go to another city/state/ country for a week end get-a-way/ vacation, would you expect all of your bottled water, sodas and alcohol to be included. Certainly not! So why are you shocked and appalled that it isn't on a ship?

CNev122    6 years ago

Carnival is pretty clear on how the programs work. I always buy the wifi and haven't experienced what you have. I prepay all wifi, drink packages, etc and have not been charged more than what I already paid, and the prices aren't what you're describing, aside from Cheers. All ships charge wifi and drink packages, some ships have promotions where its included. Since it was your first time cruising, I'm not sure how you booked, but if you did it on your own you should have looked at the FAQ for anything you were uncertain of.

jgerald86    6 years ago

Omg first you complain about the most stupid stuff. Wifi?? You can't live without your phone for a few days? It's a vacation hello. It's a cruise where you think you were going Beyonce house??? For real I been on this cruise three times no problems because it's a vacation... You complain about what's not important in life there little things. You think every thing should be hand to you. Next time read before you go. You from Harlem too so you already know where the downs and ups are like. For you to even post that was dumb. I'm not trying to be mean but your time or honestly can't be serious. Next time call Beyonce and see if she got space on her yacht.. now review that. Seriously you were mad about wifi?? Haha years ago there wasn't any WiFi.

amcdonald0613    6 years ago

I think that’s one of the best things about cruising..put your phone down and relax and enjoy the ride.

dhouc    6 years ago

Please, never cruise again

jayme31768    6 years ago

A cruise is like anything else it what you make of it. Some people love it some don’t. Talking about WiFi I have to pay for that at home why would you think you wouldn’t have to pay for it on the ship? I’ve never been on a vacation where you didn’t have to pay for all the extras like alcohol. You want to complain about the price of everything but then complain about the workers not getting paid enough how do you expect carnival to pay their helpers? Sounds like you was expecting a free ride to me.

mylove    6 years ago

Sorry you had such a terrible experience. It sucks to be on vacation & not enjoy yourself. 56 more day until my cruise yesssssss!

beautiful35    6 years ago

I'm just here for the comments....👀🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

yankandbrit    6 years ago

Why pick on people from Wyoming? We lived near Jackson Hole and it was full of jet setters, millionaires and billionaires....and it's a small town! I think I would work on my grammar and spelling before I passed judgement...smh

JayRCruiser    6 years ago

Yeah, thats kinda how cruising works. YouTube, FAQs on cruise line websites will literally tell you about every aspect of cruising before you go. Just like any other vacation type, always good to research before you book...who spends hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a vacation without researching what it's all about? That's curiously odd, but either way, sorry you didn't enjoy the fact that you were on vacation.

miracle29    6 years ago

Liberty is one of my favorite ships. Shame

AugCruiser    6 years ago

The website actually states that you can bring a non surge protecting power strip for that very reason. IJS, the Q&A section of the website is very helpful.

lolly2017    6 years ago

I can promise you I'm not from small town Wyoming, and I can also promise you that I am going to continue cruising with Carnival. I think that you are not cut out for what Carnival has to offer, and maybe you should try another cruise line.

FoxyceeB41    6 years ago

My 1st cruise is in 56 more days......this is the reason I signed up for Shipmate. For I can prepare myself for the ups and downs. I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully the hurricanes stay away this year.

brianyawn    6 years ago

Wi-Fi isn't even free at most expensive hotels

chrisang14    6 years ago

I love Carnaval and I love cruising, the cruise is what you make it, all cruise lines are the same in regards to WiFi, soda, drink packages...sounds like you didn’t do a lot of research prior to your first cruise, as you would have seen this in comparing cruise and different cruise lines.

mackmane    6 years ago

Sorry you didn't like it. But to be honest that is every cruise! Where would you think the water comes from to run a huge ship? Your water at home come from a river or ocean and is clean before it comes into your home right??? Also, all of those things you mention are of course extra. That's one every cruise ship. And the workers? That's on every cruise ship! That is why you should tip them because they work hard to make people like u happy! I love Carnival! You just have to have money to go on cruises sorryQ

panhandleslim    6 years ago

So,you are saying you didn’t like it?!?

taminita    6 years ago

Sounds like you didn't do your research... before going g on my first cruise.. I read and researched.. and new to at least bring a power strip... jeez..

KELLYCRUISE0424    6 years ago

Mybe if you would have done the proper research you would have known these things. Shame on you.

cbelc2    6 years ago

Most of this is just cruising in general. It was fun to hear it from a first timer. On my first cruise 20 years ago I thought the room looked like Motel 6 shrunk down 6 times. I had overpacked and brought heels and got so seasick I couldn’t even leave the room. I’ve gone on a cruise per year since then, different ships and cruise lines. Alcohol and sodas do cost. The soda package is usually fairly inexpensive. I like the ship water fine, but I typically splurge on a bottled water package. Coffee and lemonade are typically better then the pre-made iced tea. I enjoy the freedom on being unplugged on cruises so I don’t bother with WiFi. Yes, outlets are limited. I bring a small plug that turns one outlet into two USB ports. The workers on cruise ships are not slaves. They work there because they choose to work there. I take a seasick kit and I’m prepared for rocking ships. It’s a ship. It’s on the sea. It’s going to rock. Bonine, ginger pills, sea bands, and aromatherapy do a great job. Some of us cruise a lot and love it! I like that I feel like royalty. The ship rocks me to sleep. It’s a great way to travel. There is nothing like catching the sunrise from the balcony! Cruises are adventures. If everything goes perfect, there’s nothing to laugh about. You really can cruise without spending extra and enjoy it. I encourage you to try again. Try a different line. Unplug. Be sober. Read a book. Meditate with the sunset or sunrise. Prepare for seasickness. But be forewarned: no line makes a warm chocolate melting cake like Carnival!

mstricia64    6 years ago

Everyone has different experiences. I have heard great reviews about it and am Going in January. I too agree if you had researched or planned it would have been better but also it's what you make it.

jonthegreat13    6 years ago

Well dang

MrsBookie    6 years ago

Sorry you dislike cruises but almost everything you have mentioned is normal for all cruises.Soda, alcohol, and Wi-Fi are always extra. And most cruise ship rooms only have one outlet. Your on vacation put your phone away. I’m sorry that you did not look into the details of your vacation before you booked it. I’m also sorry you didn’t join ShipMate prior to your cruise or most things you mentioned would not be a surprise to you. Please don’t blame a company for your lack of planning.

badlcho    6 years ago

Don’t think cruising is for you. All cruise lines nickel and dime. Sodas are never included on most cruise lines except for maybe Disney or luxury cruise lines. And your comment about never being out of a small town is why someone would say Carnival is good is so off base. You just are not cutout for cruising. If you had done your research you would have known what you were getting yourself into. WiFi is extra period across the board. It’s par for the course on all cruise lines that the crew work long hours. The crew generally come from very poor places so the money they make is good despite the hard work that’s why they choose to do it. Do some research next time.

tsjs0412    6 years ago

Sorry you feel that way. I was on the liberty in October and it was great.
