Review summary

This was my first and last cruise with carnival, and probably cruises in general. It was a very disappointing cruise and my money would have been better spent throwing it in the trash can. Carnival stole my right to make an informed choice regarding this cruise because there was no mention that the FUN SHOPS were to be closed the entire duration due to construction or remodeling so I immediately feel like I have been baited and trapped. There was no offer to compensate cruisers for this HUGE inconveniences. Also the ship ran out of medication for motion sickness unless you wanted to pay $125 to see the doctor to get a script for a band or patch, then you have to pay for that as well. Again, I feel like this is a bait and trap situation. This cruise did not live up to the HYPE at all.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
Very crowded and we were given a letter notifying us the Fun Shops were going to be CLOSED THE ENTIRE CRUISE which immediately angered me because there was no offer to compensate cruisers for the inconvenience. Plus, I feel like my right to make an informed purchase was stolen from me because this information was no disclosed prior to the cruise. Had I known the shops were going to be closed, I may have not picked this cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
I have had better food at Golden Corral, Hometown Buffet, Texas Roadhouse, and Red Lobster. NOTHING AMAZING...EVEN GUY'S BURGER JOINT WAS BELOW AVERAGE.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
I feel like the same things were going on day after day; like the movie Groundhog Day but on a Cruise ship.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our room steward was awesome. Other employees seemed bothered they were even on the ship.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
People are ridiculous and would just sit food down in the hallways for employees to pick up. Several items were sitting in the hallways for hours before anyone even bothered to clean it.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The room was probably the best part of the boat.

Ship tip

NEVER CRUISE THE LIBERTY OR CARNIVAL...I FEEL LIKE IT IS A BAIT AND TRAP SITUATION AND IT WAS AWFUL!

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Didn't do much as my husband and I were trying to recuperate from the motion sickness from the night before.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
WE WERE HERDED LIKE CATTLE AND IT TOOK HOURS.

Olig, I think it’s just that it seems from your review that there were some unrealistic expectations, and maybe not a lot of research. It’s unfortunate you didn’t have a good time. My husband and I on our last cruise chose to stay on ship in a US port we’d been to. It was a bummer not being able to buy any lotion or sunscreen as the fun shops were closed all day while in port, I should have expected it but didn’t, but was not upset. Just spent time alternating sun and shade, I guess most of us have dealt with something like this and just work around it. Not letting it ruin my pool day, no matter what!

Well you guys were there so you would no !! I understand about everything else but not the fun shops there a hit a miss anyway ...but if you like to check things out well that's your choice ...but I guess for something is out of action on the ship they should let the guests know ...it's just curtesy as some people could of forgotten something thinking they will get it from the shop on the ship. This is a review on your experience and it's as you found it good or bad it is your experience... I always stock up on medications for on board I go over board really I suppose but it's still better than running out .. Hope your next experience is better than your last and it does not put you off cruising... 4 days and 3 hours till our next cruise adventure... countdown 🍹😎

First of all we were very excited to cruise and we saved up for over a year to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. Second we did take enough medication but what we had was not effective. Third, I understand things happen but this experience was completely horrible. I am not sure why you all are so pissed off that we didnt have a good time. How is my experience offensive to you. We always make the best out of a bad sitiation but I can honestly say this was hands down the most overpriced, overrated vacation I have ever been on. You all can say what you want; our experience was not what we paid for or what was offered.

Anyone starting to think this is a fake? Thinking energy would be better spent on helping out new and fellow cruisers.

rgbenning    6 years ago

Just curious, why do you feel the need to cut and paste the same thing at least three times in your post oliij ?

rgbenning    6 years ago

So let me try and understand, you had an overwhelming need to spend money in the shops on the ship. My question would be , why not spend the money onshore in the shop that are everywhere?

rgbenning    6 years ago

So let me understand, you did not even think to buy medications for motion sickness before you boarding the ship or in any of the ports you stopped in?

prestinanelsonqualls    6 years ago

The shops sell nothing but overpriced garbage anyway. Buy the shit in port where it’s way cheaper. I just can’t believe you went on a cruise just to go shopping, why did you even book a cruise? Should’ve booked a shopping trip to Atlanta, NYC, or LA. With that being said I hated my first cruise as well but it was on the raggedy ass Victory. I hated it because I built up this image in my head of what cruising was supposed to be and it wasn’t that way plus the ship was old and worn out and boring.

Sorry your cruise didn't go as planned.

You just made it a bad trip. Guys 🍔 is never bad and you should of brought enough motion sickness medication. They have 4,000 people on the ship you aren’t the only ones on.

terriesanchez    6 years ago

...And you went to how many ports and couldn't find something to buy ? Incredible!

We make our own fun on vacation and do not rely on the ship to entertain us. I’m not going to criticize if you looked forward to shopping on the ship and it was closed. Everyone wants different things from vacation. We love the ocean and get a balcony so we can enjoy it. Cruises can be so many things to so many people. I do agree that research and planning for meds or other sundries is key. You are paying a tremendous price for the “convenience” of buying ibuprofen or any med in the ship. Hope your next trip is better. Cruising is amazing and our favorite, but it’s not for everybody.

Ah that’s too bad you didn’t have a good time! Hope your next vacation is better

brad1312    6 years ago

You really based your entire vacation on if the fun shops on board were all open or not

missjeray    6 years ago

I’m sorry you weren’t pleased, but I agree with everyone else. Cruising isn’t for you. As with any vacation, whether it’s a cruise or a destination things are never going to be perfect. We have to learn to be patient, and basically suck it up and move on. Most people work hard to travel, so a couple minor inconveniences won’t ruin their whole trip. I have had ports cancelled (and no you aren’t notified then either) and also rerouted with excursions booked. Sure they might have been places I had already been, but NO BIG DEAL. I’m on vacation. Honestly, if you don’t try it again it’s your loss but it’s not fair you blame everyone except yourself.

Hate to hear you had a bad experience. Sounds like cruising may not be for you.

ElizabethOregon    6 years ago

It’s interesting to me when I see people complain about needing care on board. If I’m on vacation anywhere and don’t have Rx meds I need unfortunately I’m going to have to see a doctor to get them, and have to pay up front, about the same cost. I’m relieved they have a doctor and nurse onboard if needed, and I wouldn’t need to try to find one on an island I’ve never been to, with licensure and medication that may or may not be legitimate.

sueW24    6 years ago

And another thing you should always pack - diarrhoea stuff and if you have problems with motion sickness- items for that. The crew do a fantastic job, trying to please every body that is on board - wouldn’t be easy!

Olij1075    6 years ago

^not effective

Olij1075    6 years ago

I took sea sick meds with me; they were bot effective. And we was inconvenienced by the shops being closed because we were celebrating my husband's 50th birthday. We wanted to shop which was part of the experience we paid for.

lab341    6 years ago

Reseach solves most issues... Don't rely on the ship to supply meds they cost more, pack your own. If the fun shops wreck your cruise, I'd agree with you cruising isn't for you.

shingaling    6 years ago

You can't be for real. You forgot to pack the 2 most important things: flexibility and a great attitude. The fun shops were closed? How did that inconvenience you, and why on earth would you expect compensation? Seasick meds?? That's on YOU. You should have brought anything you needed or might need: you're at SEA. Cruising is NOT for you. Step off and make room for someone who knows how to relax, go with the flow and have a good time.
