I'd say Carnival has cut costs to the absolute minimum. The ship reeked of smoke even 2 floors above the casino due to poor ventilation. The crew was unable to perform even basic crowd management and the cruise line spent more time worrying about squeezing a few extra pennies here and there than ensuring customer happiness.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
The dining room staff was overwhelmed and unable to provide personalized service to each table. They were also unable to maintain even minimum dress codes (which apparently have been drastically relaxed in the last few years) by allowing people men wearing sleeveless shirts into the dining room during dinner and whole families wearing jeans on formal nights.
The Lido deck was little better as most of the food lines were only open for lunch (rendering them useless on port days) and only a few lines open for dinner. This lack of options was not previously a problem on Carnival ships but apparently has become an issue due to the cheapness of the \"Fun Ships\"
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The entertainment staff did a great job\, it was disappointing that we couldn't go to more events due to crowd sizes but I guess that's just how it goes.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
I have no qualms saying that the entertainment staff did an incredible job with what I'm sure are incredibly tight budgets. They did such a great job in fact that the most popular events (comedy shows) were all so full that it was impossible to get in to them if you didn't show up 15 minutes early.
The cleaning staff were nice\, did a good job but insisted on slamming doors and vacuuming @ 7:00 AM. Also\, our assistant steward never seemed to get our dinner time right and was constantly waking us up while we were napping or bursting in while we were getting ready as he would just open up the door at the same time he was knocking.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
The ship was a dump\, smelled of smoke throughout the public spaces on the Promenade and Atlantic decks (decks 2 and 3) even far from designated smoking locations due to poor ventilation.
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
Despite the efforts of the cleaning staff\, our room was a wreck. The balcony door whistled day and night due to a leak. (other rooms reported the same problem) The linens were torn and heavily stained on multiple nights\, the curtains were torn and the lampshade was essentially destroyed. In addition to all these problems\, the air conditioner in the room was never able to cool the room below about 80 degrees Fahrenheit whether the door and curtain were open or not.
Pros: The ports of call of the cruise.
Cons: Poor shape of the ship\, out of control nature of its passengers.
