Port of Tampa is a nice facility run by default like a zoo. I found this interesting, since I'd previously sailed out of Charleston, where the Port is a dump, but run like clockwork! My main complaint surrounds the smoking policy. The designated areas are fine, and people generally respect them, but smoking is permitted on all stateroom balconies. Therefore, if anyone anywhere near you smokes, YOU also have an unusable smoking balcony. Perhaps this could be remedied by designating Port or Starboard or Forward, as a section of smoke-free balconies. Just sayin', Carnival.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Wait staff was excellent in the main dining area. A few of the buffet lines, however seemed beleaguered beyond hope, and struggled to keep popular items filled. There were several times where I just settled for something else to avoid "more demanding" guests defiant stance for more!
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Shows were nice, typical cruise fare. The cruise director James was engaging, informative and entertaining, but his several assistants came off like a high school student council, having a great time with each other while you get to watch. Which in turn was kind of entertaining, just not, I believe as intended.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff was great, with the exception of the Captain and officers, who were virtually invisible. I think the Captain made two weather announcements during a seven day cruise. Never saw him once.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Nice ship not at all offended, though perhaps a little confused by the decor. Get a kick out of folks who are put off by a couple of classical nudes in a ship full of booze and casino they paid for. One negative about the casino area - you have to navigate THROUGH it to move through this deck. It's a jostling smoke filled pointless bottleneck.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Nice layout, good use of space. Hot water a little flaky at times. And the aforementioned "smoking balcony" issue.
Pros: Wait and Stateroom Staff, Nice Cabin Layout
Cons: Food Variety Weak, often out and delayed refills (on a cruise!)
