4 Night Catalina & Baja Mexico (Los Angeles Roundtrip)
Sail date: July 07, 2019
Ship:
Carnival Imagination
Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Reviewed: 5 years ago
Review summary
It worked out well for our group to have an easy getaway. We had a great time, but would not reccomend for most. I went in with low expectations and was barely satisfied. It's not great for those who like ports, because they had really limited options, and it is not great for those who like ships, because it is a small older ship.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We arrived about 1130, entered the "arrived early or late" line and walked on board within minutes.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Food was adequate, but not super impressive. Buffet has long downtime in between meals leaving the deli lines super long. Blue iguana also has very short operating hours. All this makes it hard to find snacks throughout the day.
MDR food was hit and miss. I received some rubbery chicken and leathery pork, but enjoyed the appetizers better.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
They offered all the standard fare of bingo, trivia, and talks.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Entertainment was ok, but was impressed at the frequency of shows/comedy. It was easy to see what you wanted with either dining time. Shows routinely started 15 minutes late.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Very friendly. Everyone was very helpful and seemed genuinely happy to help us.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
It is very well taken care of for an older ship, but there are a lot of dead ends making it difficult to get from place to place.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Inside cabin on upper deck aft. I really didn't mind having an inside cabin on such a short sailing. We had plenty of room. There was a lot if noise at night and our bathroom smelled like sewer the whole time. I had heard that on other reviews and sadly found it to be true.
Ship tip
Arrive early to shows if you want your choice of seat, but be prepared to wait. Nothing started on time.
Ok to wander around once, but would not go back. You dont really need to take the $4 bus to town. It is really easy to walk there. All shops seem to sell the exact same stuff. Plan an excursion.
