Review summary

Carnival was a wonderful holiday gift to the family. We made memories for a lifetime.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The best ever. We left the ship at 7 am and were in the car exiting the deck at 7:39 am.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The Burger Joint poolside is the best on the planet. The buffet had a variety but the only complaint is the bacon. Most of it was blubbery. Staff would not take it and crisp it up like other cruise lines. You had to wait until a new batch came out and take the only crisp pieces. Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast was culinary perfection.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The Kid's Club activities were wonderful! The projects were published so the children could pick and choose. The shows got increasingly enjoyable. The final nights Rock Show was OUTSTANDING! Cruise Director Melissa is wonderful. All the trivia and dance shows were engaging and professional. Bravo!

Children's Programs

Staff was extremely pleasant and well organized. Our children had the time of their life. Ms. Gummie Bear is a joy.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
On a winter cruise, the hot tub becomes important. They are woefully inadequate for the number of children on the ship. The one time we used the hot tub, the staff chided us because the 3 little girls splashed. I'd say "Rethink the pool area". Heat the pool a little and get the staff to lighten up.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
It was a little tricky getting around with the king bed and 2 pull down twins including ladders. Once the cabin beds were made up on the first day, the twins and ladders never got put up. As grandparents, we had to be very careful not running into the bed hanging above us all night and, with a corner shelf and ladder, there was no clear shot to stand upright to use the bathroom at night. The other issue with U299 is the noise at all hours from the elevator. We had to resort to ear plugs.

Ship tip

Go! It was a holiday delight. Make sure you give realistic thought to room size and location.

Disembarkation

Every cruise line should study Carnival disembarkation and do the same.
