Review summary

Embarkation was very pleasant we arrived at the port at about 10:45 AM and we were through security and in the waiting area by 11:00 a.m. after about a 20 minute waiting period (due to having priority boarding) we were on the ship by 11:20 a.m. Rooms were ready even though they stated it could be up to 1:30 PM when we could get to the rooms. We had a ocean suite on deck 7 mid ship. Room is very spacious and clean, the only con is that the beds are somewhat hard and a little uncomfortable to sleep in. Room Stewart Alex was very attentive and helpful, knew our names after the first day, always greeted us by name the entire cruise he made the cruise very pleasant. When we first got on the ship we requested a two-person table for dinner and we were accommodated very easily. Dining room staff (Sasa, Louis and Leitytim) were great and made dinner very enjoyable. Lido Market place is big and spacious never had an issue finding a seat even on sea days. The free frozen yogurt and soft serve are located near the entry into the Lido by the resort pool on both sides. Guy's burger and the 24 hour pizza were good options to have if nothing interest you in the lido buffet. Also the free lunch at Guy's Pig and Anchor were very good (For dinner there is a fee not sure how much as we only we there for the free lunch one time) Tried three of the Specialty (extra fees) restaurants (Steakhouse ($30 pp), JiJi ($15 pp) and Bonsai Teppanyaki (A la Carte depending on what you order, most expensive was steak and lobster at $30 pp appetizers were included no extra fee). All were good with great service. Favorite was the Steakhouse (recommend getting the art at table dessert). Least favorite was Teppanyaki the food was not bad, just not a personal favorite. There were many options for food and always was able to find something good to eat. The late night (11:30 PM -1:00 AM) buffet options were good (the same each night). There are many bars and lounges to choose from but one con for me was that the drinks were very weak. Not a big drinker but the few cocktails (4 total) I had were very weak and water down. If I am going to pay 10 - 15 for a cocktails I want it to taste like a cocktails and not watered fruit juices. Although the drink from the Alchemy bar was good (The Remdy) it was still on the weak side. I liked the new elevator systems just takes a day to get used to, having to remember to press your floor before you get in the elevator. The photos area Pixels on Deck 5 mid-ship is a very nice modern set up with many iPad to view and purchase your photos. Also your photos can be viewed and purchased on the Carnival App. Ocean Plaza on Deck 5 aft is a great place to sit and relax. There is also a small buffet area that serve breakfast and lunch items. At times there's games, trivia and live music. All service staff on the ship we encountered was very helpful and friendly. Entertainment was very good they had many activities planned like trivia, games and music events all throughout the day. Liquid lounge is the theater area were the production shows were held. It's on two levels decks 4 and 5 forward. Show were good, really enjoyed the Vintage Pop show would recommend. Also there was comedy show sometime. On board this cruise there were 4 different comedians and a mentalist. There is also the Limelight lounge which was the comedy/night club, we didn't get a change to attend. Cruise director Mike and his fun squad (Kendal, Joey, Josh, Erin and DJ Jazzy) were very friendly with high energy, they kept the party going. I definitely recommend downloading the Carnival App, it is a must to have as it has your fun times listed and you can always find out what activities are going on as well as see the dining room menu. The chart feature ($5 pp for entire cruise) was help although had an issue and needed to re-download for it to work, but guest service was very helpful with fixing the issue. Dembarkation was very smooth off the ship by 8:40 AM. Although the weather the first day and the day before we got back to New York wasn't the best there still plenty to do to have a good time. We had a wonderful vacation and will definitely cruise Carnival again. Carnival Horizon is a beautiful ship with many great amenities (Sky ride, Water slides, Pool side movie screen, Thrill Theater (extra fee $5.50 pp), IMAX Theatre (Extra Fee $12.95 first person and 2nd is $9.95)) and an excellent crew. I highly recommend going on the Horizon!
