Review summary

As a veteran cruiser, 1-2 cruises a year, we were not happy with this ship. We had just taken 4 of our 5 kids on Glory's sister ship, the Liberty, a year ago. In comparison of the two, Liberty scored higher ratings than the Glory. See comments below.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
QUALITY OF FOOD: The food of bland and the selection was not as good as the Liberty. The salmon was dry and the chicken was very bland. The lobster was okay but would not rate it high. We were happy to see the Molten Chocolate Cake was still on the menu. AMBIANCE: There were FLIES in the Platinum Dining Room. They were a nuisance to the environment. SERVICE: Although proper attire is stated in the cabin documents for each day\, patrons were wearing bathing suits\, t-shirts\, and even OVERALLS to dinner. We addressed this with the Host and Hostess and they said they have had issues with patrons on this cruise and were unable to address this with the large number of patrons not complying with the dress/attire rules. TABLE LINENS: Table linens were only placed on the tables during Elegant Night. We inquired about this and were told that the ship was going with an American Style Dining due to cutbacks. I'm a Proud American but this cutback was a disappointment to a veteran cruiser.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The singers/dancers/technology performers in the Amber Palace were AWESOME!!! We enjoy theatre and were impressed with the use of graphics. I have a feeling that other Carnival Ships and/or cruise competitors will try to recruit these performers!!!

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
Although we did not use this service\, I have to say something about what I observed. As an evaluator of educator services in my profession\, I would rate this service very low. I noticed that the Children's Program Staff were not engaging with the children and/or monitoring them appropriately. I noticed that one group of three staff members were sitting down (talking with each other) away from children who were under their care/watch. As a parent\, I would like to know that my children are being engaged in any activity and/or learning environment. The staff members should not be sitting down conversing with each other\, away from the children. As we say in education\, they should BIM...have Buns In Motion....and not sit down...not engaging children in activities.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
As stated above in other topics\, ship staff members stated at many times they were afraid and/or unable to address critical topics with cruise guests. This was stated by the Host/Hostess in the Platinum Dining Hall in response to patrons wearing swimsuits\, shorts\, t-shirts and overalls to dining....and...with cabin stewards in response to unruly drunk guests in the middle of the night.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
We had just been on the Glory's sister ship\, Liberty\, a year before. We remembered the identical layout. Our suggestion would be to add an additional specialty restaurant. We visited the Emerald restaurant during this trip but would like more of a variety.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
We stayed in cabin 8335 on this ship. The cabin was average overall. The only issues that we had were with the movable wooden chairs in the sitting area above the cabin. This was located close to Senor Frogs. The chairs could be moved/dragged across the floor which radiated the sound to our cabin below. Also\, with it being close to the elevators\, we had a group of drunk patrons who were very loud at 2am on two separate nights. They woke up many patrons in the cabins in this area. Ship staff said there was nothing they could do about this. I got the perception that the ship staff were afraid to confront patrons who were non-compliant on this cruise.

Pros: excursions (Puerto Rico's Rainforest & St. Thomas' Ultimate Island)

Cons: lack of staff services (see below)

Recommends Carnival Glory? No.
