Good cruise for people who don’t mind not having a lot of extra bells and whistles on their ship or for first timers.
Embarkation

We had FTTF so getting in was a breeze. However, you’re supposed to get your bags fairly quickly and we had to wait until after 5 to get them. We weren’t trying to smuggle any alcohol or anything (which would cause a delay for normal people). We asked why it took so long for us to get our bags at customer service they apologized and gave us onboard credit. Overall, I ain’t mad.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We LOVED the food in the main dining room and looked forward to dinner and brunch everyday. The buffet was okay, but we found ourselves either going to guys burgers or the taco place instead anyways.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We greatly enjoyed the serenity area and spent most of our time there. However, the water slide was just okay and the big movie screen was broken for most of the cruise. We were cruise noobs at the time and didn’t know that this was one of the last sailings before being dry docked for refurbishments so that explains why the ship in total was a little lackluster. Now we know better and do our research.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Went to the shows every night as well as the comedy club. While at times we felt the shows weren’t quite our demographic, we still enjoyed them nonetheless and it was a good place to hang out after dinner while we battled our food comas from eating too much at dinner.

Ship Quality

This ship looked and felt like we lived in the 70s. Some of the decor just felt straight up tacky. I know a lot of people love the freedom, but this just wasn’t our style. Didn’t stop us from enjoying the cruise tho.
Cabin / Stateroom

Had a mid ship balcony cabin. Had great views!
Ship tip
Do your research before booking your cruise. We were first timers on this ship and had a good time, but now that we know that there are so many more options we won’t be booking a cruise on a ship like the freedom again. It’s good for first timers to get a feel of whether or not they like cruising since typically this ship is cheaper than the Vista (which also goes out of galveston).
We were supposed to do isla passion, but the weather was too rough and it GoT cancelled. Took a risk and rented a car and drove around and found some beautiful beaches on the opposite side of the island that had no one there. Beautiful port!
We did the blue hole through ShoreExcursioneer and had a BLAST! Only complaint was my boyfriend WANTED to get pot but no one would offer it to him because he was too eager and they all thought he was a cop 😂.
We're going on the Freedom in January because it's a Partial Panama Canal cruise and goes to 6 ports. In December after that we'll be on the Vista in a Havana aft balcony.
