8 Night Eastern Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)
Sail Date: June 30, 2012
Ship: Carnival Freedom
Cabin Type: Balcony
Traveled As: Family (older children)

The ship was impressive. The ship was clean, just seemed a little outdated. Maybe that's the way all ships are. This was our first cruise in 21 years.

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The hot foods at the buffet were barely warm and by the time you got your drink and looked everywhere for a place to sit it was cold. Tasted institutional or mass produced. Which it had to be.The restaurant was better. The staff VERY attentive. The food was good. Coulda' used less of the funky sauces.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I would have liked more activities. Some things were so crowded, we couldn't get near them. Our dining time was changed without our knowledge and if we ate every meal at the late dining we would have missed out on activities we wanted to do.

Children's Programs

I have a tough age. 16 and 19 year old. The 19 year old was too old for the teen stuff and too young for the adult stuff. They wanted to hang together as they are both shy, nothing for them to do. The pool activities were always packed, rarely could find a seat. They like rock music, most music on board was pop or rap.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff we dealt with on a regular basis were wonderful. Made sure to know our names right away. Can't say we met anyone on staff that was having a bad day.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
It was very clean. The staff was constantly cleaning. I wish morning coffee was more easily accessed. The overall layout was fine.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our balcony room was great! Highly recommend. We were a little cramped but not bad. The gentleman who took care of our room was excellent! Always very helpful and kind.

Pros: the excursions

Cons: too many people, couldn't find a deck chair. buffet food was always cold by the time you got to eat it.

Recommends Carnival Freedom? No.
