This was my third cruise. I have cruised on Holland America, Princess and now Carnival. This Carnival was the worst cruise and if it had been my first, it would have been my last. I feel bad to say that because of the staff on the Elation. The staff on the Elation was the one excellent experience of this cruise! I am hopeful that this information will encourage Carnival to clean (top to bottom) the Elation, repair elevators and other items and to dock this ship until finished and inspected by an independent organization.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We had booked a junior suite, so we were allowed priority boarding.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The best thing about the dining room was the service. The food was very good, but the waiters we had were excellent and fun, fun, fun! The buffet was ok, nothing great. The hamburger stand was very good.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The activities were good, but seemed to be the same ones over and over. Also, most all of the events were simply trying to sell their wares. I did enjoy Bingo, Karaoke and the Art Auction.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The performers were good, but it was the same group of singers and dancers in all of the shows. The most entertaining were the Director, Kevin and the Bingo host, Emme.
Children's Programs
We had no children with us.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All staff were extremely competent and kind.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
The ship did have some beautiful areas, however, overall it was very disorganized. The elevators seldom worked and we had to continually find different ways to get where we wanted to be. Sometimes we would have to go up a floor, then take stairs down a floor to get to the section we needed. The galley was in the way and blocked off both restaurants, thus the need to go up, down and around. The casino and bar is an open floor plan and smoking is allowed. So, anytime you need to go thru to get to the restaurant or other rooms the smoke and smell was awful. The ship appeared fairly clean except the windows were very dirty and we could hardly see out of them. The bathroom in the Tiffany Restaurant was filthy.
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
The size was fine and it appeared to be nice and clean. However, after 2 nights I woke up with 3 bug bites on my neck. I reported it to medical and guest services. I was assured they would inspect the room, turn it over inside and out and report back to me what (if anything) was found. That afternoon they reported nothing was found. The next day I had 3 bites on my left arm. Once again, I reported it to medical and guest services. I was told they had inspected the room again and found nothing. Of course. not only is this causing me to miss activities, shows and events, the bites itched, looked terrible and hurt. Guest services offered a 50% refund at this time and to move to an inside cabin. I appreciated the refund and offer, but my sister can not stay in an inside cabin and we had paid for a balcony. Next day, I had a bit on my right shoulder. After the bites on my shoulder were reported, we asked for and received the other 50% back. Though we were grateful for the refund, the ordeal took a lot of time away from my trip, I was not comfortable in the room, and I felt bad and itchy. Also, I was having to go to medical, go to guest services, go to the room to wait on people. As an added bonus, I came home with a bad cold.
Ship tip
I really don't know what to say, because of the bugs, I will not go again.
It was beautifully colorful and friendly. I did not give it a higher score because of the pressure sales in the streets and the shops. I did not go on an excursion.
It is ashame, you had that problem, our experiences with Carnival has been all positive. But had that happen to us, they would not like us. Sorry for what you went thru!
I’m happy they compensated you. We went a couple weeks ago and our kids room flooded and so did the cabin beside them. Carnival compensated us $147 on board credit and free laundry service. Cabin R57 it was a huge mess for the entire cruise 😂 We couldn’t figure out if it was the carpet smelling so bad from the flooding or the five boys sharing the room 😂 Our money was on the boys 😂 Still love Elation and Carnival but will avoid cabin R57 like the plague 😂
Wow.....i hope it wasnt bedbugs! This is one of my worst fear cruising or staying in hotels. I went on elation back in aug and loved it. Sorry u had issues.
