Review summary

The Carnival staff was the only thing worth mentioning. They did a great job the boat on the other hand needs to be burnt! Pool was nasty our "Suite" was more like a run down hotel room on the wrong side of town. Will not be going on a cruise again.

I CANT BELIEVE THEY STILL TAKE PEOPLE OUT ON THE NASTY OLD SHIP

Cabin / Stateroom

Disappointed is an understatement, Carnival should be ashamed to offer that as a Suite. It was outdated dirty missing tiles stains just gross!

Did you have a Grande Suite and if so, what stateroom? This is the smallest class of ships and does not have the upgrades that other ships have, but all in all, it is very clean. At least it was when that ship was brought over from PR last year. If you want a 5 star ship, I suggest the Vista. We enjoy the smaller ships, especially when the port is 10 min. from our home. Less people, less chaos and better service, in my opinion. Having sailed with Holland America, I know the difference. I prefer Carnival because they are truly the "Fun Ships"!

With respect to old vessels, I don't expect older vessels to be worn and  run down. We just got off the Pacific Princess which is only one year newer than the Elation. Here is what I said about our cabin and the vessel in general: "The ship is well taken care of, in fact I thought our cabin, 8000, must have recently been refurbished as it was in perfect condition and the heating-A/C system worked like it should. Crew members are constantly chipping away old paint and renewing woodwork everywhere. I saw no patches of rust anywhere."   And I should add, the Pacific didn't recently come out of a refurbishment either, in fact it is due into dry dock this coming May. Over the last three years, two vessels we have been on had entered service within the year. The Pacific was just as nice or nicer than those two. If you really want to experience a ship with a lot of stuff in need of repair and besieged with problems, just try booking one of these maiden voyages.

Sorry that you didn't have a good time. However, don't let the one experience stop you from cruising.

Yes, of course the newer ships are very nice and clean.   The pool areas are congested and I rarely use them except for early morning or just a quick dip to cool off.  I was on Fantasy before her retrofit.  I had seen ageing big time.  Chipped walls and tile.  Filthy used up tables with some kind of stickiness to most of them.  The pool was ok for the most part.  I was not impressed with her in the common areas.  Then after she went to dry dock and got cleaned up real nice I have read mostly good reviews.  I can see why the OP on this thread was upset.  Personally I really did not care to much that Fantasy needed cleaning up.  I still had fun.  Yes, CCL should clean up all there older ships and maintain ALL of her fleet.

As a GI, I worked on Air Craft that was 25 years old. So, I don't mind a little chipped paint, rust and some age showing. Maturity is what I call it.

No excuse , Carnival is not alone but seems to be the leader in this category as far as overall cleanliness of there Vessels,  We took our first cruise in the early 80s then took a long break to raise the kids ,  Recently was aboard a Carnival Vessel it was not a pleasant experience, Whet surprised me was as we were disembarking new passengers were preparing to board , in my eyes not enough time to properly clean and the prep the vessel has it always been this way. Surely can't blame the crew ?

Agreed thumbs up....

Age is no excuse for the condition of the ship that you reported.  I hope you mentioned the condition of the ship in your survey or a letter sent directly to Carnival after your cruise.  Perhaps the ship is ready to be sold.

Have to say I agree it's a fleet not one or two vessels,  age , should not matter, Filthy is filthy sure when u did your research the photos looked spectacular, Good luck on your next adventure.

Thanks for the post. There is not a good reason for that amount of neglect. I hope you inform Carnival HQ of your experience in hopes that they a) fix it, and b) ensure it doesn't happen on other ships.

@CrusinTim  I realize that it was an older ship when I booked it but I expect for the cruise line to maintain the boat properly there were tiles chipped and broken in our bathroom the shower leaked the pool was disgusting  I was afraid to let my son get in the hot tub or pool because it looks like he could get a bacterial infection from the disgusting suds forming everywhere . I left my review for others the staff was amazing it's not their fault that carnival does not maintain their boats

Sorry you didn't enjoy your cruise but why would you book a cruise on a ship that is 19 years old and not expect some "ageing" after almost 2 MILLION people have sailed on the ship since it was launched? Sounds like you should book a ship that is a bit newer if your expecting a "NEW" experience.
