Review summary

This was our first carinaval cruise. San Diego to Catalina Island and Enesenda. We had an outside cabin on the Riveria deck. Plenty of bath towels. Towels animals where adorable. Free movies 3 different ones everyday. The adult only deck area was really nice. The loungers had cushioned pads. There was a sun area and a shaded area. 2 hot tubs and an outdoor shower. You where able to get towels right there using your sail and sign card. Overall I can't wait to go again

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I don't think there where any specialty dining rooms where you had to pay extra. Which was really nice. All the food was free. The coffee bar was the exception. Food was good. If you had late dining and wanted to eat earlier just go to your designated dining room and let them know your hungry now and they will find you a seat. We didn't think we would like seating with other people, but it was very nice to meet others. It got us out of our shell.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
There are so many bars/open areas to drink and the cigar bar was my favorite place. Many indoor areas to smoke in. Yes, there are a few of us left who still enjoy smoking a cigar or cigarettes. Entertainment I heard was good, but the shows where late at night 10:30/11:30. I know it's not that late, but coming back from shore excursions, hot and tired too many cocktails, etc. It's easy to go to bed by 10 p.m. Casino was nice. Really enjoyed all the areas of the ship. The show room was super large and very comfy seating.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The entire staff on the elation where very helpful and polite. The servers at the pool where not pushy about buying drinks, that was refreshing, not to be hounded to buy, buy, buy.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
There was always someone cleaning windows, floors, etc. After one day you get familiar with the layout and find the shortcuts. For an older ship it was in very good condition.

Cabin / Stateroom

Having an actual thermostat would have been great. What controlled the A/C was a knob on the ceiling vent to open and close how cold you wanted to be. It was hard to find the perfect vent control not to be too cold or too warm. The bathroom was a nice size plenty of room. Shower was big, nice to see a medicine cabinet to put our bath items in instead of cluttering up the counter. The bed was fairly comfy, we asked our steward on the 2nd night to put a down comforter between the mattress and sheet to make it softer, it was great then. Slept really good. Plenty of closet space and hangers. It would have been nice to have a fridge though. Our room was always clean.

Ports of call

Ensenada, Mexico

It was OK. The city tour and shopping was not worth the money. The wine tour was a joke. You could take a taxi for a 1.00 to the town and do your own thing

Catalina Island, California

Wish we could have stayed longer. It took forever to get off the ship because the tenders only held about 40 people per trip.

Pros: All the open bar areas

Cons: No thermostat
