Review summary

After not having sailed on Carnival for seven years we were pleased with the overall cruise. There have been some changes and an overall drop in customer service and conveniences due to staff reductions. The App worked very well and for the $5 per cruise charge for on-board communications it was welll worth it.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Since we had a suite we went in a special line for priority check-in and was through in about 5 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
While the quality of food was generally quite good, Carnival has cut back on wait staff. They were incredibly hurried - wanting our food order as we sat in our seats. Carnival has dropped the separate desert menu as well. Although the staff was polite they had zero time to get to know us.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Carnival's forte is to have lots of things to do aboard their ships. This was true here as well. There was always something to do - even on days in ports-of-call.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Tremendous improvement in the quality of on-board entertainment. Shows were very well done - great vocals and plenty of technology.

Children's Programs

We were a party of adults only.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
With the advent of all-you-can-drink programs Carnival has cut back on bar wait staff. With a full ship of passengers the numbers of bar waiters was woefully inadequate.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Although the ship was clean, we were surprised not to see any emphasis on hand sanitizer usage throughout the ship even with the coronavirus situation.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was clean & spacious. Same for bathroom which had two sinks. The jacuzzi tub was unnecessary however - a simple double shower would suffice.

Ship tip

Do not book a cabin in the front of the ship as all dining venues are at the rear of the ship. With continuous elevator breakdowns it became a chore to move back & forth for dining.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

5 out of 5
The port was easily accessible - much improved from seven years ago. It took only 40 minutes to get from our cabin to the car!
