Review summary
That fact that everything was able to be worked out at some point or another was a plus. My concerns was the never given us an opportunity to practice with the safety vest in case of an emergency. The extra expense if you need to seek medical attention on board the ship, Guest service lines were always to long and long waiting period. Not enough help with my special needs teenage son and I this information was told before hand. The cost of photo was over price. AT the beginning of the cruise should have been give a list of all activity on board with information and a map of directions with times of events available. No departing gifts for the cruise when leaving.

I guess that since this was your first cruise, it was an eye opener for you. Many ships no longer have passengers actually put on their life jackets. Too many passengers were tripping over the straps causing accidents. But, on your first day there was a drill where you were shown how to do it. I am sure that if you asked your room steward, he would have helped you to put it on in your cabin. I do understand your concern especially since you have a special needs teen. Medical attention costs are extra on every ship, by the way.
The best times to go to the front desk are off hours like early in the morning, during meals times or late at night. Yes, I agree that the photo prices are high. I wish that they would print them in smaller sizes and charge less. I would buy more. How many large photos can you display in your home?
Before your next cruise, visit the cruiseline Website for more information about what to expect on board. As you know, every day passengers get a schedule of activities for the day. Usually you can tear off a section of it making it easier to carry in a pocket. Keep your deck plan always with you, you can plan out your day. We usually do this over breakfast. I carry a highlighter pen with me and mark the activities I wish to do. I ask my Steward for my own copy since my husband and I often do different activities.
Now that you are a more seasoned cruiser, I am sure that there will be less surprises on future cruises. I hope that all your future cruises go well for you and your son. I am sure life is challenging raising a special needs child.
