Review summary

This was our sixth cruise as a family and first on Carnival. We will absolutely book with Carnival again! The fun, laid back atmosphere was perfect for our family. The food was good, drinks served quickly and there was plenty for everyone to do on this big, beautiful new ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We got to the port about forty five minutes before our embarkation time. Walked right into the terminal and through security without stopping to wait once. We waited in a holding area for about fifteen minutes before they called our number early and we went onboard.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We mostly ate in the MDR for breakfast and dinner. The breakfast service was a little slow, but dinner was fabulous. We had Your Time Dining, but still wound up at the same table each night. Our server, Marcos, was incredible. He always had a smile on his face and by day three was greeting us at the table with the kids’ sodas already in his hand. Everything we ate there was delicious. The kids loved the steak and fried chicken, husband loved the short ribs and chicken parm, and I loved the vegetable lasagna and the risotto that was served with the lobster tail. We went to the buffet for breakfast the first two days and decided to skip it the rest of the week. It was small and frantic and the food was luke warm at best.

Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse

We all either had the filet or the surf and turf. It was all delicious, but the exact same filet and lobster were served in the MDR on the two elegant nights. It was also VERY slow. We wouldn’t pay extra to go there again.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
My teens loved the water slides and the ropes course. The roller coaster was fun and worth the extra charge as a one time thing. Loved the variety of pools. They were in different areas of the ship and geared towards different audiences. There were 6300 people on our sailing and we never struggled to find a chair. The casino was a little small for a ship this size, but we appreciated how it was divided into a smoking and non-smoking section.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
There were six different comedians on our sailing and we saw five of them. One was excellent, three were very good and the last was just ok. I liked how the shows were split - PG shows in the Limelight Lounge and R shows in the Punchliner. Family Feud was hysterical and very well done. I was looking forward to the Circus, but it just wasn’t what we thought it would be. We actually didn’t even realize it had started for a few minutes as there was no announcement or change in the music that was playing.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was clean and well maintained. We loved how the venues were spaced out around the ship. It never felt crowded despite it being Spring Break week. The Central Stage area was beautiful, but it was hard to see from deck 6 and there wasn’t enough seating on 7 or 8.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We loved the Havana Cabana. The patio space was big with a full sized lounge chair, another chair and a swing. Plus, there were two more lounge chairs right outside our door. We spent time out there every day and wouldn’t hesitate to book this type of room again.

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Another great excursion. We went on the Spirit of Saint Martin schooner. We snorkeled, kayaked and had access to paddle boards. There was a full open bar once you were finished with the water activities as well as a freshly made lunch - grilled chicken and shrimp and various salads.

Miami, Florida

San Juan, Puerto Rico

We walked around on our own and toured the forts. It was fine.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

This was our favorite stop. We did an excursion called Zip and Dip that combined zip lines and natural stone water slides. It was a blast.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We left our room at 7:15 and were driving away from the port by 7:45. Could not have been easier or faster.
