Put your phone on AIRPLANE MODE the minute you step on the ship. I would also download the WHATUP app for calls & texts. I use this app at sea

The hub is free, but the wifi there is a charge for. The price is based on what package you want and for how many devices. Since I'm also a college professor, I needed to grade assignments so I got the premium.

if there's any chance you have T-Mobile, you'll have free calls, text, and data in Mexico. we usually detach on sea days and just wait for port days to connect

You have to purchase a Wi-Fi plan if you want to connect to Wi-Fi. Look on your cruise manager for Wi-Fi plans to see the different plans.
